Job Description

A reputable renewable energy company is looking for an experienced Technical Support Manager with an engineering or electrical background to support solar design, commissioning, and technical operations to join their team in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in PV systems, client engagement, and troubleshooting across a variety of inverter and battery brands.
Responsibilities:
Manage on-site and remote commissioning of solar systems, including performance testing and validation
Lead fault finding and maintenance activities, both remotely and on-site
Present design concepts and technical specifications to clients
Assist in the design and layout of residential, commercial, and agricultural solar PV systems
Conduct site assessments and provide input for feasibility and design accuracy
Ensure compliance with local codes, safety regulations, and industry standards
Collaborate with project, sales, and installation teams to ensure effective implementation
Continuously improve design methodologies and technical processes
Compile technical reports, as-built drawings, and maintain organized documentation
Train and mentor installation teams on design interpretation and specifications
Research and propose new solar technologies and tools for operational improvement
Requirements:
Red Seal Certification (Wireman's License advantageous)
Bachelor of Engineering (BEng / BEngTech) in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 3 years' experience in solar PV system design, installation, and commissioning
Proficiency in solar design software and remote monitoring tools
Strong knowledge of electrical design, inverter and battery systems
Familiarity with local electrical codes and solar industry standards
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for site work
