Job Description


The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a qualified and competent individual to implement national and provincial legislation, policies and processes to ensure efficiency in regulatory, technical as well as management fields. To coordinate, facilitate, monitor, evaluate and standardise services delivery of the technical cadre in animal health to enhance service delivery to customers.
Minimum RequirementsAn appropriate 3-year National Diploma/B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification) in Animal Health; A minimum of 3 years experience in management of technical staff; Registration as an Animal Health Technician with the South African Veterinarian Council; A valid code B (or higher) driving license. NB: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also apply.

Key Performance AreasManage and improve working activities of Animal Health Technicians by promoting standardisation, monitoring and evaluation; Manage operational resources, equipment and supplies in the sub-programme: Animal Health To ensure implementation of approved disease surveillance plans and good record keeping of statistical data; Implementation of approved working plans in providing a primary animal health care service to livestock farmers; To liaise and coordinate action plans with stakeholders involved in animal disease prevention and control; Assist management and provide information for Programme reports and evaluation.
CompetenciesKnowledge of the following: Animal Disease Control; Effective and rapid implementation of operational plans; Sound organisational and planning skills; Good Communication Skills; Effective work planning and sc+heduling; Interpersonal Relations; Analytical and problem solving skills; Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Outlook).
RemunerationR 582 444 R 686 091 per annum (Salary level 10)Note on remuneration in addition service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
