Job Purpose





Has primary responsibility for all aspects of the operational management, team development and technical delivery of the Mining Technical Discipline Team within Advisory in Africa to ensure successful project delivery, client satisfaction, sustainable business performance and growth as well as motivated staff. This includes working with the Service Line Director (and others globally) to develop and implement sustainable growth and commercial strategies, which are aiming to enhance profitability by adding value to our growth activities and accelerating growth by driving the technical discipline's growth strategy. This also includes supporting the wider success of the business across the Africa and Middle East Region.




Minimum Requirements:



More than 20 years' experience with a substantial proportion in a mining advisory consultancy role. Appropriate Hons and Master's degree and professional registration. Must be able to develop and sustain client relationships. Strong collaboration skills Experience of international good practice approaches. Experience of developing winning high value proposal. Must be able to manage small, medium, and larger more complex projects. Must be prepared to travel. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel Should have a valid driver's license. Must have worked on projects across various sectors within Africa. Understands multi-disciplinary issues of large complex projects in many disciplines and sectors.

Key Responsibilities





Strategy:



H

olds primary responsibility for developing and implementing the Technical Discipline commercial strategy as well as driving growth in revenue, margin performance, and expansion of services within the Technical Discipline. This should align and integrate with other relevant Service Line, Regional and Global Strategies. Develops the Technical Discipline Growth Plan and Budget, working with others including the SLD, which captures key target areas for growth, service and geographic diversification. Monitors progress against Plan goals on an on-going basis and refines as appropriate. Identifies business risks, trends and strategic growth opportunities (including M&A targets and strategic recruitment needs) as well as tracking competitor activity to develop effective strategies to stay ahead of the competition Working with the SLD and the Sector Leadership team, driving all aspects of the business development pipeline, from positioning, prospect development, and the winning of work, along with tracking of spending and returns on investment. Works with the SLD to target key hires and/or acquisitions to support the expansion of services and further develop the talent and skills needed to support the clients today, and into the future based on changing economic and regulatory drivers.

Client Management:



Develops strong relationships with clients and partners to drive business growth and foster increased customer loyalty. Works with others to build and maintain client relationships. Understands the requirements of existing and future clients to ensure their needs are being met by the Technical Discipline team. Monitors client trends and identifies strategic opportunities and risks to SLR's business and reports on these. Develops and implements commercial strategies for the Technical Discipline, working with others including the SLD, other SLDs and members of the Regional Growth Team (such as Business Sector Leaders). This includes developing and managing commercial agreements with clients including pricing strategies, optimizing margins, and ensuring sustainable profitability. Supports the Client Account Program for clients within the region, working with Regional Sector Leaders and Client Managers to drive implementation. Works with Sector Leaders and SLD to identify and position for strategic bids with 'Priority' and 'Developing' Clients in advance of them coming to market. Plays an active role on other strategic bids for the Technical Discipline. Works with SLD to agree on resource allocation to strategic bids and client initiatives. Ensures the management of operational and commercial risk at proposal stage. Ensures that the sales pipeline is maintained and up to date. Ensures the effective delivery of projects to clients within the Technical Discipline Responsible for the technical output of the Technical Discipline and works with their SLD (and others as appropriate) to ensure that the quality of the technical work is of an appropriate standard. Manages operational risk by ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with the Region's Quality Management System Supports Project Teams in resolving relationship or delivery issues on projects.

Financial Performance



Responsible for developing and implementing sustainable growth and commercial strategies, which are aiming to enhance profitability by adding value to the technical discipline's growth activities and accelerating growth by driving the technical discipline's growth strategy. Works with the SLD, Regional Operations Director, Global Practice Director (where applicable) and Sector Leaders to prepare Technical Discipline Budgets including Fee & Total Revenues, FTE, Contribution and Gross Margin. As part of the budgeting process, develops growth investment priorities in consultation with the SLD (and others). Responsible for meeting fee and total revenue, FTE, contribution and gross margin targets for the Technical Discipline, and actively addressing areas of underperformance in collaboration with the Regional Operations Director and Service Line Directors. Responsible for the management of travel and expenses within the Technical Discipline. Active involvement in commercial negotiations and invoicing schedules/cash flow management on major bids. Responsible for proactive management of working capital and net write offs including active involvement in Aged Debt recovery.

People



Plays in a key role as part of the Regional Management Team, working with colleagues to deliver overall success for the region and build collaborative relationships Provides active leadership of Technical Discipline employees, supported by coaching and mentoring, within the Technical Discipline to ensure an engaged and motivated workforce. Has responsibility within the Technical Discipline for staff recruitment and retention, staff development and talent management, succession planning of all roles within the discipline (including their own role). This includes working with the SLD (and others) to develop and agree strategic recruitment plans. Responsible for ensuring that all staff within the Technical Discipline receive sufficient training for the roles that they perform. Plans and implements a communication plan for the Technical Discipline team that ensures frequent and appropriate engagement in a manner that fits in with wider regional strategies and frameworks is agreed with the SLD. Celebrates success across the technical discipline and promotes this across the Service Line and Region. Works with others to plan for and successfully resource all proposals and projects. Makes remuneration recommendations to their SLD for their team employees.

Health & Safety



Promotes SLR Health and Safety culture through proactive safety leadership and staff engagement Responsible for ensuring compliance with SLR's Health and Safety Management System within the Technical Discipline Responsible for developing any required standard Health and Safety procedures for the Region that are specific to the Technical Discipline (working with the Regional Health and Safety Manager) Works with the Regional H&S team to ensure that the programs provided address sector and client needs.
