Job Description


Our client is looking to employ a Technical Content Writer.

This position will be a hybrid position reporting to Stellenbosch, or Worcester, and will report to the Head of Solution Design and Innovation.

As a Technical Content Writer, you will be responsible for creating high quality and engaging technical content, including articles, blog posts, whitepapers, user guides and product documentation. Your primary focus will be on crafting clear, concise, and accurate content that effectively communicates complex technical concepts to our target audience.

Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.
  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.
  • Write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help and user guides.
  • Create tutorials to help end-users use a variety of applications.
  • Creating blogs, user guides and video content to be used by the business and users of the software.
  • Working with the business analyst and other team members in collecting and documenting user stories which will be used to create functional specs.
  • Documenting the changelog and communicating new system changes to the users of the software.
  • Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities.
  • Content Creation: Develop original, well-researched, and informative technical content for various platforms, including company's website, blog, social media, and marketing collateral.
  • Technical Expertise: Gain a deep understanding of our products, services, and industry to produce accurate and compelling content that resonates with our target audience.
  • Content Planning: Collaborate with the marketing and product teams to develop content strategies, ideate on topics, and create content calendars that align with business objectives.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct comprehensive research to gather information from credible sources, industry reports, product documentation, and subject matter experts to produce accurate and up-to-date content.
  • Writing and Editing: Craft clear, concise, and grammatically correct content that adheres to our brand voice and style guidelines. Proofread and edit content for clarity, coherence, and technical accuracy.
  • SEO: Optimize content for search engines by incorporating relevant keywords, meta tags, and on-page SEO techniques to improve organic visibility and search rankings.
  • User Documentation: Create user-friendly and easy-to-understand product documentation, user guides, FAQs, and knowledge base articles that assist customers in effectively using our products.
  • Content Promotion: Promote and distribute content across various channels, such as newsletters intranet, and industry publications.
  • Content Maintenance: Update and maintain existing content to ensure accuracy, relevancy, and alignment with industry trends and best practices.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with subject matter experts, product managers, engineers, and designers to gather insights, validate information, and ensure technical accuracy in content creation.
Key Outputs:
  • Create Release notes & maintain the environment.
  • Create changelogs on all development work across all standard business applications & maintain the environment.
  • Create & maintain SharePoint sites.
  • Create & publish content on the Intranet or relevant SharePoint site.
  • Create & maintain permissions matrix according to business needs.
  • Ensure best practices and industry standards are considered and applied to any work done on any application.
The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:
Work Experience:
  • Proven Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a technical writer, content writer, or similar role, preferably in the technology industry.
Competencies:
  • Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of technical concepts and ability to simplify complex information for non-technical audiences.
  • Exceptional Writing Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to grammar, punctuation, and style.
  • Research Abilities: Proficient in conducting thorough research, synthesizing information from multiple sources, and producing accurate and well-structured content.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • SEO Knowledge: Familiarity with search engine optimization (SEO) best practices and the ability to optimize content for better organic visibility.
  • Collaboration Skills: Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong proofreading and editing skills with an eye for detail to ensure the accuracy and consistency of content.
  • Technology Familiarity: Proficiency in using content management systems (CMS), project management tools, and basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Portfolio: A portfolio showcasing your previous technical writing samples will be highly advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines.
  • Strong detailed oriented approach to task execution.
  • Ability to collaborate with the wide range of individuals involved in project management.
Qualifications
  • Certification in Technical Content Development or Content Writing would be an added advantage
