Job Description

The main responsibility of the buyer is to ensure that orders are placed timeously to ensure zero production stoppages. In addition, the position is responsible to find potential suppliers, negotiate best prices and terms, and make agreements or contracts for purchases for materials and goods that meet aviation quality standards.

Key Performance Areas:

• Assist Supply Chain Supervisor in placing orders with suppliers.
• Using in-house Supply Chain System to process orders and associated tasks.
• Daily follow-up/liaison with suppliers to ensure zero stock shortage.
• Stock counts as and when required.
• Ad hoc tasks as assigned to ensure effective functioning of Supply Chain Department.
• Manage spares requests in support of customers and Maintenance Organisation.
• Establish and maintain enduring relationships with preferred suppliers.
• Develop a strong rapport with departmental and section managers.

Requirements:

• A strong combination of analytical and interpersonal skills and attention to detail is paramount.
• Proven ability to analyse supplier proposals to obtain the best value purchases is a key skill in this position.
• A firm working knowledge of mechanical and electronic components and an awareness of suppliers of such components will be an added advantage.
• Working knowledge of specialised composite materials and industrial metals will be beneficial.
• Computer literate in MS Office Packages.
• Proven communication skills (written and verbal) in both English and Afrikaans.
• Financial acumen and an understanding of procurement disciplines, JIT principles, working capital and benefit of scale will serve as recommendation.
• Self-driven, able to meet deadlines with excellent time management and planning skills.
• Strong negotiation skills.

• Matric
• Must have a valid SA drivers
