As part of its continued growth, the organization is seeking a dedicated Technical Advisor - Poultry Farms, Hatcheries and Processing Plants to join its agricultural operations team. Reporting to the Technical Advisor.
Duties:

  • Audit the biosecurity, chemical application and chemical use on poultry farms, hatcheries and processing plants.
  • Submit audit reports to the clients Senior Management and the Head Office.
  • Liaise between the company and the client.
Responsibilities:
  • Visit farms, hatcheries and processing plants as per schedule to audit the biosecurity and clean out process.
  • Ensure that the farms are correctly prepared for the clean out.
  • Monitor and check the wash out and disinfection process.
  • Monitor and check the chemical use and application.
  • Tabulate chemical use per farm, hatchery and processing plant and report.
  • Prepare detailed reports for each farm, hatchery and processing plant visited. These reports will be sent to our clients Senior Management.
  • Monitor the hygiene scores from each farm, hatchery and processing plant and compile a database of hygiene results; Do spot checks by taking swabs and sending them to the laboratory at Head Office.
  • Tabulate farm, hatchery and processing plant hygiene scores and send reports to the Head Office.
  • Solve problems in remote locations with limited support and equipment.
Note:
The farms are spread over a large area and will therefore require a fair amount of traveling.
The position is quite physical and requires good health and fitness.
Working hours:
8 hours a day. Working hours may be abnormal and the candidate is required to manage their own time according to the customers expectations.
15 working days leave per annum.
Other leave as per Basic Conditions of Employment.
Qualifications/Education:
  • Tertiary education: Bachelor's Degree in Science with a major in Chemistry or Microbiology.
  • Computer: a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Laboratory Experience: Microbiology or Analytical Chemistry.
Language:
  • Afrikaans and English.
  • Conversational Zulu would be very helpful.
  • Professional English writing skills.
  • Communicate with a broad spectrum of individuals from Farm Staff to Senior Management.
Other:
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Minimum code 8 drivers license. Code 10 would be an advantage.
  • Neat and well presented.
