We are a US-registered business with a headquarters in Mauritius.BackgroundSoCha is recruiting qualified personnel to propose on a 20-month GIZ project in South Africa currently being procured using open competition. The position is contingent upon the award of the contract*.* If SoCha wins the bid, SoCha will hire the successful candidate for the life of the project.The project will deliver evidence-informed, gender-relevant implementation of early violence prevention in South Africa with localised implementation and multi-stakeholder management. This will involve working intensively in three selected pilot sites: eThekwini Municipality (Kwa-Zulu Natal), Ekurhuleni Municipality (Gauteng), and Rustenburg (North-West Province). The project targets children aged 0-12 and their caregivers (parents, educators, social workers, etc.).   • Location: South Africa (Preferably based in Gauteng, in close proximity to the VPPIC team, with travel to three pilot sites)
  • Reports to: Contractor Management / GIZ VPPIC Project Lead
Role OverviewThe Team Leader will have overall responsibility for the advisory packages delivered by the contractor. They will lead the implementation and oversight of activities, particularly at the local level in one of the three sites (preferably Gauteng). This role is crucial for ensuring effective collaboration with stakeholders, coherence with the broader VPPIC project, and high-quality delivery of services.Key Responsibilities
  • Assume overall responsibility for the contractor's advisory packages.
  • Implement and oversee activities at the local level in one of the three sites (preferably Gauteng), maintaining close proximity to the VPPIC team.
  • Ensure effective collaboration with local stakeholders and funding bodies involved in implementation.
  • Ensure coherence and complementarity of the contractor's services with other services delivered by the project at local and national levels.
  • Manage and identify local subsidies for local organizations in the three sites.
  • Design, implement, monitor, and evaluate capacity development measures for local partners.
  • Take responsibility for considering cross-cutting themes (e.g., gender equality).
  • Manage staff, including identifying needs for short-term assignments, planning and managing these assignments, and supporting local and international experts.
  • Ensure monitoring procedures are carried out effectively.
  • Facilitate community workshops, meetings, and capacity-building sessions.
  • Oversee data collection, monitoring, and reporting on project activities and outcomes.
  • Ensure regular reporting in accordance with deadlines.
  • Take responsibility for checking the use of funds and financial planning in consultation with the GIZ officer responsible for the commission.
  • Ensure integration into the VPPIC team, including close collaboration.
  • Maintain contact with other donors and the commissioning party where necessary.
  • Support the short-term expert with setting up the process of the project.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Education/Training: University degree (e.g., Master's or German Diploma) in development studies, social sciences, international relations, violence prevention, gender studies, or security studies.
  • Language: Excellent command of English (C2 level). Proficiency in at least one local South African language (e.g., isiZulu, isiXhosa, or others) at C1 level.
  • General Professional Experience: At least 15 years of professional experience in managing international development projects, with a significant focus in the field of social development.
  • Specific Professional Experience: At least 10 years of professional experience in social crime and violence prevention, AND/OR early childhood development, AND/OR gender equality initiatives.
  • Leadership/Management Experience: At least 7 years of management experience in projects, companies, or other organizations with disciplinary leadership responsibility for 5 or more people.
  • International Experience: At least 7 years of professional experience in Southern Africa.
  • Country/Regional Experience: At least 7 years of professional experience in South Africa.
  • Development Cooperation Experience: At least 10 years of experience in development cooperation projects.
