The Tax Specialist is responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with all tax regulations, preparing and submitting accurate tax returns, and providing expert advice on tax strategies to optimize the company's financial position while maintaining full legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance
Prepare and file all company tax returns (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax, Provisional Tax, etc.) accurately and on time.
Ensure compliance with SARS (South African Revenue Service) regulations and respond to any queries or audits.
Maintain proper documentation and records of all tax-related transactions.
Tax Planning & Advisory
Analyze financial statements to identify potential tax savings opportunities.
Provide advice on tax-efficient business structures, mergers, acquisitions, or investments.
Keep management updated on new tax laws, amendments, and their potential impact.
Audit Support
Assist in internal and external audits related to tax matters.
Prepare required schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents.
Liaise with auditors and tax authorities as necessary.
Risk Management
Identify and mitigate tax risks within the business.
Develop and implement internal controls and procedures for tax compliance.
Reporting & Analysis
Prepare monthly and annual tax reports and reconciliations.
Analyze tax data to support strategic decision-making.
Advise management on effective tax cost forecasting and budgeting.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
Professional certification preferred (e.g., SAIT, SAICA, CIMA, or ACCA).
Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in tax compliance and advisory (corporate or public practice).
In-depth knowledge of South African tax legislation and SARS eFiling systems.
Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, or Pastel) and MS Excel.
