We're looking for an Intermediate Tailings Engineer to join our dynamic Mine Waste team in Midrand. Bring your expertise in geotechnical and tailings engineering to a collaborative consulting environment that values innovation, diversity, and professional excellence.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailings and geotechnical solutions in line with international best practices.
  • Oversee technical components of projects including data interpretation, analysis, reporting, and design.
  • Apply advanced techniques to analyse tailings behaviour, stability, and seepage conditions.
  • Contribute significantly to proposals, design documentation, and engineering reports.
  • Mentor junior engineers and guide their technical development.
  • Provide input into water use license and waste management applications.
  • Lead or support inspection, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities and related earthworks.
  • Interact with external clients, building strong relationships and offering technical expertise.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in internal knowledge-sharing, innovation forums, and business development initiatives.
Job Experience & Skills Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng or BSc); Honours in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in tailings or geotechnical engineering, with a consulting or operational background.
  • Professional registration with ECSA (or eligible).
  • Demonstrated leadership in tailings facility design, assessment, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software including slope stability and seepage analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and MS Project.
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and engineering compliance in South Africa.
  • Financial awareness of project budgets, WIP, and receivables.
  • Strong report writing, client communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to lead small projects or workstreams.
