Job SummaryAn advanced South African refinery based in Kempton Park, Gauteng, specializing in adding value to locally sourced precious metals, is looking to appoint a Strategic Sourcing Manager within the Risk and Compliance Department. This pivotal role is responsible for managing the strategic sourcing and end-to-end supply chain of precious metals, with a strong emphasis on compliance, efficiency, and ethical sourcing. The ideal candidate will hold a relevant degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Supply Chain, or a related field, and bring a minimum of 5 years' experience in physical or commodity trading, preferably involving high-value materials. Experience in international logistics and customs regulations is essential, while supply chain certifications such as CSCP or CPIM will be an advantage. The role involves regular travel across South Africa and into Africa to inspect mines and stockpiles; a valid passport and willingness to travel are therefore required.Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
• Certification in supply chain management (e.g., CSCP, CPIM) is an advantage.
• 5+ years of experience in physical trading, commodity trading, or supply chain management, with a focus on sourcing and handling precious metals or similar high-value materials
• Experience with international logistics, customs regulations, and the handling of high-value commodities.
• Strong problem solving, negotiation, communication and customer relationship skills.
• Strong knowledge of supply chain processes and best practices, including ethical sourcing.
• Solid understanding of trading, market dynamics and legislation related to precious metals.
• Familiarity with industry regulations related to the handling of precious metals.
• Knowledge of logistics & operations: Understanding of shipping, warehousing, and transportation logistics.
• Technical & Financial Acumen: Familiarity with hedging strategies, derivatives, and risk management tools.
• Analytical: Strong ability to interpret market data, trends, and pricing models
• Competent in Microsoft Office suite
• Own vehicle and valid Driver's License.

Duties:

• Trading & Negotiation: Buy and sell physical commodities through direct negotiations, market exchanges, and structured deals.
• Market Analysis: Monitor global market trends, supply-demand dynamics, and geopolitical factors to identify trading opportunities.
• Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks related to price fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and currency exchange rates.
• Logistics & Supply Chain Management: Oversee transportation, storage, and delivery of commodities, ensuring smooth execution of contracts.
• Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, buyers, brokers, and financial partners.
• Ensure customer and supplier queries are dealt with promptly either from a technical, logistical, trading and/or payment perspective.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all transactions comply with South African regulations, international trade laws and responsible sourcing standards.
• Financial & Contract Management: Negotiate contracts, monitor pricing structures, and track financial performance of trades.
• Trading Insight: Understand and incorporate market trends and trading practices into procurement strategies to optimize costs and secure favorable deals.
• Supply Chain Strategy: Develop and implement a supply chain strategy for sourcing precious metals aligned with business objectives.
• Sourcing and Procurement: Manage the sourcing and procurement of precious metals, establish and maintain vendor relationships, and negotiate contracts to secure advantageous terms while ensuring ethical and responsible sourcing practices. Including supplier site visits from a responsible sourcing point of view.
• Inventory Control: Monitor and manage inventory levels of precious metals to optimize stock, minimize costs, and meet production and demand needs.
• Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments such as production, trading, finance, and compliance to align supply chain activities with business goals.
• Performance Metrics: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to the precious metals supply chain and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Stakeholder Communication: Inform customers and suppliers of the legalities of dealing in gold and precious metals. Strong interpersonal skills for building and maintaining relationships.
• Technology Utilization: Implement and leverage the ERP, software and tools tailored for the tracking and management of precious metals.
