As an Optical Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for our patients and customers. Your role involves greeting visitors, assisting with appointments, providing product recommendations, and ensuring a smooth, welcoming experience from start to finish. You'll play a key part in maintaining excellent service standards while supporting the day-to-day operations of the store
Minimum Requirements
Matric certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification is required.
Additional training or certification in customer service, administration, or healthcare is beneficial but not essential.
Fluency in English is required, and the ability to communicate in additional South African languages is an advantage.
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
A professional, well-groomed appearance is essential, as you will represent the practice.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
A friendly, professional attitude with a focus on providing excellent customer service.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service and Patient Interaction
Greet patients and customers warmly upon arrival, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Assist with answering inquiries about services, products, and appointments.
Provide information about frame styles, lens options, and optical accessories.
Guide customers through the frame selection process, considering their preferences and prescriptions.
Address and resolve customer concerns or complaints professionally and promptly.
Appointment Management
Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments efficiently.
Maintain an organized and up-to-date appointment calendar.
Communicate appointment details and reminders to patients.
Administrative Support
Perform front-desk duties, including answering phone calls and responding to emails.
Manage patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
Handle medical aid queries and assist with claims or billing processes.
Prepare and distribute invoices or receipts.
Sales and Transactions
Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system.
Handle payments, including cash, card, and medical aid claims.
Promote and upsell optical products, such as contact lenses, cleaning solutions, and eyewear accessories.
Store and Inventory Management
Maintain a clean and organized front-of-store and waiting area.
Monitor stock levels of optical products and accessories and notify management of shortages.
Ensure proper display and arrangement of frames and other products.
Support for Optometrists
Prepare patients for eye examinations by collecting relevant medical and vision histories.
Assist with pre-testing procedures, such as taking measurements or administering basic tests if trained to do so.
Coordinate with the optometrist to ensure smooth patient flow and optimal service delivery.
Compliance and Training
Adhere to all healthcare and optometry practice regulations and standards.
