We're looking for a passionate

Sous Chef

to support our Head Chef and lead the kitchen team to consistently deliver high-quality dishes with flair and efficiency.

Role Summary



The Sous Chef is the second-in-command in the kitchen, responsible for assisting the Head Chef in managing daily operations, supervising staff, and ensuring the highest standards of food quality, hygiene, and service. You'll be hands-on, creative, and a strong leader, helping maintain a smooth, professional, and fun kitchen environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesKitchen Leadership



Assist the Head Chef with menu planning, recipe development, and execution. Supervise, train, and motivate kitchen staff, including Chefs de Partie and Commis Chefs. Ensure your team maintains high standards of food preparation, presentation, and service. Step in and manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.

Operational & Food Prep



Oversee daily kitchen operations and workflow. Monitor portion control, food quality, and presentation. Assist in managing stock, ordering, and minimizing waste. Maintain consistent and efficient mise en place and service readiness.

Hygiene & Safety



Ensure strict compliance with South African food safety, hygiene, and HACCP standards. Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas. Promote and enforce safe use of kitchen equipment and tools.

Teamwork & Communication



Work closely with the Head Chef and front-of-house team to ensure smooth service. Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative kitchen culture. Provide guidance and support to all kitchen staff to encourage growth and development.

Requirements



Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a similar role, ideally in a high-volume or upscale cafe/restaurant environment. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent culinary skills, with knowledge of modern techniques and beach/coastal cuisine. Ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards during busy service periods. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
