Role Overview

DataProphet Connect is a fully-managed, cloud-based industrial data and analytics platform for manufacturers and machine builders. Connect currently ingests billions of data points weekly from factories located in over 30 countries.



DataProphet Connect includes an industrial data gateway for factories: a physical appliance which receives and processes data from a wide range of factory data sources including Scada, PLCs, databases, and historians, then uploads this data into the customer's cloud environment.



These "Edge" devices operate under challenging conditions, yet our customers expect a high level of reliability, performance, and ease of use from their Edge fleets. As a member of our Edge team, you will be helping us to continuously refine our Edge stack for this purpose.



We're looking for a curious, driven, and detail-oriented Engineering Intern to join the Edge team. You'll work at the intersection of OT, IT, the on-device (Linux) OS, our centralised fleet services, and the various software components that make up the Edge stack. You'll support the development, deployment, and monitoring of IIoT solutions for manufacturing applications. You will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of Linux systems, streaming frameworks, infrastructure management, concurrent programming, and collaborative software engineering, to name a few. We're a friendly, collegial team that holds itself to high standards of software engineering and customer service.

What you will learn

The development & management of IIoT solutions at an industrial scale. The unique challenges of maintaining real time data ingestion pipelines in manufacturing environments which are responsible for billions of datapoints per week in throughput. Practical implementation of IIoT architectures and industrial protocols (e.g. MQTT, OPCU-UA, Modbus, Siemens S7, etc.). The opportunity to contribute to and gain software engineering skills practices as part of an agile team. Hands-on experience with concepts ranging from large-scale automation & DevOps to CI/CD and remote device configuration & management.

Mandatory Qualifications & Skills

At least an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field. We are looking for someone who is passionate about building reliable and maintainable systems, and who enjoys working their way up a steep learning curve with the help of open source tools. Competence with both Linux and Python (preferably asynchronous development) is a must. An understanding of remote infrastructure configuration and deployment concepts. Skills in problem solving, communication, and a tendency to think beyond the immediate task. You may be required to present to external stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

Bash scripting Infrastructure as Code experience is highly desirable Django Experience Metrics and reporting concepts with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana etc
