Job Summary

Main purpose of the job:

  • To manage and coordinate social media and communications activities for the Wits RHI Key Populations project targeting transgender individuals and female sex workers
  • Activities include content production, data reporting, audience interaction and moderation, content distribution, and internal and external social media-related stakeholder engagement
Location:
  • Blackwood, Parktown - Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
  • Development of a comprehensive digital content and communications strategy that aligns with the key objectives and targets of the Wits RHI Key Populations program
  • Management of Wits RHI Key Populations social media groups and pages ensuring that content is up to date
  • Maintain and update a content calendar to plan, schedule, and organize content publication and distribution
  • Translate social media strategy into detailed monthly social media plans that include static posts, videos, and ads using platforms platform such as Hootsuite and/or MailChimp
  • Ensure that all digital content is optimized for search engines (SEO) to improve visibility and organic traffic
  • Brief and oversee graphic designers, and videographers in coordination with the Senior Management Team
  • Produce social media posts using design software and mobile video production tools
  • Write messaging for social media posts, reports, and in-person communication events
  • Serve as the primary moderator for interactions with community members and clients on social media groups and pages
  • Post content on Wits RHI Key Population pages and distribute content to internal and external stakeholders
  • The link leads from social media and in-person communications activities to Wits RHI and other clinical services
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure content is consistent with brand messaging and objectives
  • Collaborate with Senior Management Team and Implementation Research team to design and implement implementation research projects
  • Collaborate with the Senior Management Team and clinical teams to analyze performance data, and interventions, and strategize on effective social media and in-person communication activities that will result in an increased demand for services from key populations
  • Evaluate and produce monthly social media reports for internal and external stakeholders, and donors
  • Prepare online and clinic-based beneficiary surveys using Survey Monkey, Google Forms, or WhatsApp surveys, when required
  • Stay updated on digital content trends and emerging technologies to recommend and implement innovative content strategies
  • Support personnel training in effective social media use
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities and reports and deliver reports timeously
Required minimum education and training:
  • Relevant Certificate or Diploma in Digital Marketing
  • Computer literate in standard MS Office packages, including MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work in digital design platforms; preferably Canva and Adobe Illustrator
Required minimum work experience:
  • At least 5 years experience in Digital Marketing including campaign planning, community moderation, distributing content on social media, creating, and coordinating digital marketing campaigns for a small to medium-sized company or public health organization
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with an emphasis on creativity and attention to detail
  • Experience in developing social media plans, designing, or commissioning creative posts, and community moderation
  • Working knowledge of generating reports from social media analytics or incident platform
  • Data-driven and analytical mindset, with the ability to generate and interpret data analytic reports
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:
  • Exposure to public health communications
  • Experience working with target key populations, i.e., transgender individuals and female sex workers
  • Experience working in a donor-funded organization or NGO
  • Comfortable communicating with clients and community members on all popular social media platforms
  • Exceptional organization and administrative skills, with working knowledge of MS Office (particularly MS Excel and PowerPoint), design platforms, and analytics
  • Creative thinking and an innovative approach to content development
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in digital video production is an advantage
  • Valid driver's license with own, reliable transport preferred
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, tact, and professionalism at all times
  • Able to exercise discretion, high levels of initiative and independent decision-making
  • Must be assertive, confident, and adaptable
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Positive, energetic, team player
  • Ability to plan, adapt to complex situations, and manage stress
  • Understand POPPI requirements
