Purpose of Job

The long-term crude oil scheduler will utilize crude oil refining knowledge and experience to develop long term crude oil schedules for months M+2 till M+4. This will require close co-operation with the Natref planning and scheduling team as well as with the shareholders planning and crude oil trading teams. The short term and long-term crude oil schedulers will align the schedules developed for M+1 till M+4 on a weekly, and more frequently if required, basis to ensure they are able to guide the shareholders w.r.t. crude oil requirements to ensure the refinery can be operated with feasible crude oil modes throughout the mentioned planning period. These requirements, to name a few, will be volume, type of crude oil and timing of vessel estimated time of arrival slots for the SBM offloading. The long-term crude oil scheduler might be required, from time to time, to do acting as the short-term crude oil scheduler to cover sick and planned leave requirements.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

Support the creation of the Natref production plan by providing validated inputs for the six months rolling plans with regards to long term crude oil availability, volumes and qualities.

Interface with production planning (Natref, NDO, Sasol Energy and TMSA) and crude oil trading functions (SE, TMSA), both internal and external to Natref.

Develop the monthly crude oil processing schedules for months M+2 to M+4 (rolling period) based on the shareholders preliminary processing plans for the same period (Volume, type and availability).

Very close co-operation with the shareholders planning and Crude Oil trading team to develop the M+2 to M+4 crude oil schedules.

Challenge and articulate the production operational flexibility, constraints, and the utilization of these parameters to achieve the long-term crude oil processing targets.

Identify logistic threats and recommend actions to mitigate risks (Crude type, volume).

Track communicated crude oil vessel deliveries and discuss deviations with shareholders planning team.

Ensure new crude oil evaluation process is executed as per procedure, database updated (LP model and Flowers, crude oil scheduling tool) with latest approved assays.

Schedule the processing PDA for each new approved crude within 4 weeks of approval. This also includes managing the process from when request for approval is received to the last step of the processing PDA. -

Use Keystone crude database and tool to determine feasibility of specific crude mixtures for processing in the Natref refinery.

All SBM and NDO tank farm segregation rules should be adhered to as per normal monthly crude oil scheduling rules (RCD and Bitumen modes), injections schedules into the Transnet owned crude oil pipeline, receipts at Natref into specific crude oil tanks, preparation and processing in either RCD or Bitumen modes through the Crude Oil distillation unit and the preparation of crude oil processing yields per processing mode in the CDU.

As required do acting as short-term crude oil scheduler to cover leave and sick leave arrangements. -

Do after hours and weekend standby as refinery scheduler thus must have a good understanding of the Crude oil refining operations and final product blending

Formal Education and Min Experience

Qualifications and minimum experience B SC Chemical Engineering with 8 years refining experience within Natref or crude oil refining industry

B. Tech (Chemical Engineering) with 8 years refining experience within Natref or crude oil refining industry
