Our client requires the services of an Operations Engineer (Advanced) - Midrand/Menlyn/Rosslyn/Home Office rotation.

POSITION: Contract until December 2027
EXPERIENCE: 4-6 Years related working experience.
COMMENCEMENT: 01 May 2025

• ?Feature Team: Edge Ecosystem - Industrial IoT in Self-Service: Consisting three agile feature teams (5-6 professionals each) from Germany and South Africa.
• They are a team of developers building an innovative IoT and Edge Ecosystem for a global production system.
• Working in an interdisciplinary, international DevOps environment, they tackle everything from industrializing smart wearables in factory settings to seamlessly connecting production control systems to the cloud.
• Their mission? Delivering industrial IoT through a self-service approach! Leveraging their deep in-house expertise, they design and develop core platform components in a setting that champions software craftsmanship and technical excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

• ?At least 3 years' worth of experience using Docker, Python, Linux (Ubuntu preferred)
• ?Rich experience with Container Orchestration Platforms e.g., Docker Compose

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

• ?Docker
• ?Python

• ?Container Orchestration Platforms e.g., Docker Compose
• ?Any additional responsibilities assigned in the Agile Working Model (AWM) Charter

• ?Testing framework: PyTest preferred
• ?Networking knowledge (e.g. Wi-Fi or ethernet configuration, DNS setup, SSH, troubleshooting)
• ?GitHub Workflows
• ?Azure Cloud, Azure VMs
• ?Kubernetes, Azure Kubernetes Service preferred
• ?Kustomize, Kubernetes template language and HELM

ROLE:

• Infrastructure Management:

• Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable and reliable cloud infrastructure, primarily on Azure.
• Support the management and optimization of Kubernetes clusters for container orchestration.
• Monitoring and Performance:

• Help set up and manage monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the health and performance of applications and infrastructure.
• Analyze system performance metrics and logs to identify and report issues proactively.
• Incident Response:

• Participate in on-call rotations and assist in incident response efforts to troubleshoot and resolve outages or performance issues.
• Contribute to post-incident reviews to identify root causes and suggest preventive measures.
• Collaboration with Development Teams:

• Work alongside development teams to improve application reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Provide support and guidance on best practices for deploying and managing applications in production environments.
• Automation and Scripting:

• Develop and maintain automation scripts for infrastructure provisioning and deployment processes.
• Assist in implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools like Terraform or Azure Resource Manager.
• Security and Compliance:

• Support the implementation of security best practices and compliance requirements for infrastructure and applications.
• Collaborate with senior team members to ensure necessary controls and monitoring are in place.
• Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

• Document processes, procedures, and system configurations to ensure knowledge transfer and operational continuity.
• Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and contribute to team learning.
• Provide on-call support for the edge platform (DevOps)
