As a Shipping Controller at Cape Union Mart, you are responsible for managing and coordinating all import and export shipping activities. This includes ensuring goods move efficiently and cost-effectively across international borders and arrive on time, in full compliance with customs and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensuring accurate documentation and tariff application
Managing relationships with freight service providers
Reconciling costings and payments
Keeping systems up to date
Supporting operational continuity through reliable inbound logistics
Qualification & Experience
Required: Matric (Grade 12)
Preferred: Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, or International Trade
Advantageous: Training in Incoterms, Customs, Import/Export Regulations
3-5 years in shipping/logistics operations, preferably in retail or FMCG
Experience in freight forwarding, customs clearance, and handling bonded goods
Skills
SA customs regulations and international trade compliance
HS codes, duties, VAT implications, bonded/rebate goods processes
ERP and logistics systems: Oracle, TradeCloud, Sage
Technical Skills
Proficient in MS Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs)
Familiar with online logistics and SARS portals
Systems: Oracle, Sage, TradeCloud
Excellent written and verbal communication
High numerical accuracy and analytical thinking
Effective time management and task prioritization
Sound decision-making and problem-solving
Strong service orientation and teamwork
Flexibility and adaptability to change
