The Shift Supervisor (SS) is responsible for leading a team during a specific shift to ensure operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and adherence to Company standards. This role supports the Restaurant General Manager (RGM) by leading and coordinating day-to-day shift activities, coaching team members, and driving performance to achieve business results. Additionally, the SS promotes a positive employee experience through engagement, inclusion, fair and consistent treatment, and effective delegation of tasks, ensuring accountability.
Key Performance Areas (KPAs) & Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Build People Capability
Facilitating on-the-job training and onboarding to ensure operational standards are understood and executed.
Providing real-time coaching, recognition, and encourage open communication and feedback during shifts.
Maintaining a positive, structured and inclusive team environment; address performance and IR issues promptly and fairly.
Promoting teamwork and motivating staff to achieve shift objectives.
Assigning tasks based on operational priorities and business needs, ensuring effective utilization of team resources; monitoring completion and providing constructive feedback.
Performance Indicators:
o Training completion and compliance.
o Team engagement and morale.
o Disciplinary issues and compliance.
o Employee feedback and inclusion scores
Deliver a Consistent Customer Experience
Ensuring CHAMPS and brand standards are consistently met, including food safety, cleanliness, and product quality.
Resolving customer complaints promptly and professionally, applying the LAST approach.
Driving marketing initiatives and encouraging suggestive selling.
Maintaining safety and security protocols.
Performance Indicators:
o CHAMPS/ROCC audits.
o Customer satisfaction and complaint resolution.
o Operational Routine Compliance.
Grow the Brand, Sales and Profits
Managing shift-level controllable costs (staffing, food, and paper).
Ensuring accurate cash handling and stock control.
Allocating staff effectively using the roster and scheduling tools.
Driving sales efforts through upselling and promotional execution.
Reporting shift performance and variances to the RGM.
Performance Indicators:
o Sales performance vs. shift targets.
o Labour and cost control compliance.
o Accurate shift reporting and cash reconciliation.
Ideal Requirements
Minimum:
Grade 12 / Matric
Essential:
1-2 years supervisory experience in QSR, retail, or hospitality.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to coach and motivate teams.
Familiarity with POS systems and basic MS Office
South African citizen with a valid identity document and clear criminal record.
Willingness to work shifts, evenings, weekends and public holidays in line with business needs.
