SHIFT ENGINEER



Operations




Involves hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of production equipment during assigned shifts. Ensures minimal downtime, compliance with safety and quality standards, and efficient operation of bottling, mixing, packaging, and utility systems.

Job Purpose




To maintain and enhance the reliability and efficiency of production machinery and processes. Proactively addressing equipment issues, implementing preventive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives, to ensure uninterrupted production, product quality, and adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations. Contributes to meeting production targets, reducing costs, and upholding the factory's commitment to delivering high-quality beverages to consumers.

Key Accountabilities and Outputs



Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting



Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on production line equipment such as mixers, fillers, bottlers, conveyors, labeling machines, and refrigeration systems. Output: Achieve 95%+ equipment uptime during shifts, with detailed logs of interventions and root cause analyses for any breakdowns.

Shift Operations Support



Monitor and optimize production processes during shifts, including utility systems (e.g., water treatment, compressed air, and steam generation). Respond to emergencies and faults promptly to minimize production interruptions. Output: Timely resolution of issues, ensuring shift production targets are met or exceeded, with reports on performance metrics like output volume and efficiency rates.

Quality and Compliance Assurance



Ensure all engineering activities comply with food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000), health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA), and environmental guidelines. Conduct audits and implement corrective actions as needed. Output: Zero non-compliance incidents during shifts, with documented audits and training sessions for operators on equipment handling

Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities for process enhancements, energy savings, and cost reductions. Participate in projects like equipment upgrades or automation implementations. Output: Contribute to at least 5-10% annual improvement in operational efficiency through initiatives, with proposals and implementation plans submitted to management.

Team Collaboration and Reporting

Lead and mentor shift technicians, coordinate with production and quality teams, and provide shift handover reports. Output: Smooth shift transitions, training records for team members, and accurate daily/weekly reports on maintenance activities, downtime, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Inventory and Resource Management

Manage spare parts inventory, order replacements as needed, and ensure tools and resources are available for the shift team. Output: Maintained stock levels to prevent delays, with cost-effective procurement practices.

Qualifications and Experience



Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications such as Certified Maintenance and Reliaility Professional (CMRP) or equivalent are advantageous. Minimum of 3-5 years in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food and beverage industry (e.g., soft drinks, bottling, or FMCG). Hands-on experience with PLC systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and automated production lines is essential. Prior shift-based roles involving 24/7 operations are preferred. Proficiency in diagnostic tools, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) like SAP or Maximo, and basic programming for automation. Knowledge of food industry regulations and lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen) is required.
