Job Summary * Your area of responsibility will include the following
Main shaft barrel and relevant station maintenance

Daily Inspections of the main shaft conveyances (Men and Material)
Daily Inspections of the shaft conveyances (Men and Material)
All main shaft construction work in and around the shaft barrel
Inspection on the relevant lifting equipment
Good housekeeping in your section on surface including the shaft bank and workshop area
Maintenance of the Fork Lifts and mobile Crane
Assist with the slinging of heavy material
Assist with rope maintenance on surface winder including: cutting of back ends and front ends, ropes changes and the greasing of the ropes
Maintenance of skips, cages & Replacing thereof
Maintenance of the shaftxe2x80x99s infrastructure
Maintenance on shaft examination canopies
Maintenance of safety devices including, shaft station gates, shaft station stop blocks, shaft and gate interlocks and shaft screens
Pump Chambers and ancillary equipment
Sewarage, Change Houses, Water plant
Updating all relevant logbooks
Perform shaft examinations
At times, you might be required to assist with general maintenance and construction in the service shaft
You are responsible for the safety of yourself fellow workers an any contractor working in your section
You are to carry out the following with reference to your area of responsibility
Ensure all employees and any other person, which include any Contractor employee comply with the provisions of legislation
Record any non-compliance and if within your scope of authority instruct the contravener to rectify his non-compliance.
Bring any instances of non-compliance you cannot rectify yourself, to my attention
You are responsible for any contractor working in your area of responsibility
Ensure that all the logbooks are up to date, correctly filled in and signed off
Comply with inspections and legal requirements as outlined in your logbooks
You have the right to stop any work or unsafe workplace and notify the Health and Safety Officer and Supervisor without delay
Make yourself conversant with all policies and procedures and managerial instructions
At times it will be required of you to perform duties within the section should persons be absent or because of workload requirements
Required to perform standby duties
Attending breakdowns and emergencies
Good housekeeping in your sections
Conduct safety meetings with your people
Perform JSAxe2x80x99s before non-routine tasks and any task does not have a safe work procedure
Complete submit work orders
Perform lifting activities
You are hereby authorized in terms of MHSA Regulations 8.5(5) to operate equipment and lifting tackle
You are to maintain a good working knowledge of the following provisions applicable to the Mine

Comply to Section 22. Employeexe2x80x99s duties for health and safety
Your will comprise of the following
Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act no. 29 of 1996) and its Regulations at all times;
As far as reasonably practicable eliminate and rectify all sub-standard conditions and practices in your area of responsibility
Maintain acceptable limits as specified by Covalent Water Company standards and strive towards continual improvement regarding risk rating in your area of responsibility
Ensure the competency of the employees reporting to you. You are responsible for all Engineering Assistants doing a task with you, under your supervision;
Strive towards 100% availability on all machinery and equipment under your control through ensuring proper maintenance as required by implementation of a proved maintenance system
Compliance with the requirements of the SAP system;
Manage cost expenditure in order to reduce wastage
Manage your overtime according Covalent Water Company Procedure; and
Action required by EMS responsibilities as per your area of environmental responsibility demarcated on the environmental plan
You are responsible for the safety, operations, maintenance, and upkeep of your section
Assistance to Person appointed as Safety Officer
Conducting regular assessments
