SEO Strategist

South Africa: M-F 6 hours of overlap with EST
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced SEO Strategist to join our team. This is a hands-on, client-facing role that combines SEO expertise, technical website management, and digital content execution to ensure client engagements deliver measurable results.
You'll manage SEO strategies across multiple clients, optimize websites, troubleshoot technical issues, and align content with SEO best practices. A key part of this role involves joining client calls, presenting updates, and explaining SEO data in clear, actionable ways.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
Serve as the main point of contact for assigned clients.
Conduct discovery sessions to understand client goals, audience, and digital presence.
Provide consistent updates, reports, and actionable recommendations.
SEO Strategy & Execution
Develop and implement tailored SEO strategies.
Conduct keyword research, competitor analysis, and performance tracking using SEMrush or similar tools.
Optimize website content (blogs, landing pages, pillar pages, metadata, internal linking) to improve rankings.
Perform SEO audits, identify technical issues, and coordinate fixes with developers as needed.
Website & Technical Management
Manage and update client websites in WordPress (content posting, optimization, troubleshooting).
Ensure websites meet SEO, usability, accessibility, and performance best practices.
Coordinate advanced troubleshooting with development teams when necessary.
Content & Social Support
Write or optimize client content aligned with SEO goals and brand voice.
Contribute to thought leadership (blogs, video content).
Support social media efforts with keyword-informed ideas and optimization guidance.
Analytics & Reporting
Monitor SEO and website performance using Google Search Console, SEMrush, and Google Analytics.
Prepare performance reports and recommend adjustments.
Stay up-to-date on SEO trends, algorithm changes, and digital best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Computer Science, Digital Media, or a related field.
2-4 years of experience in SEO and digital content management (agency experience preferred).
Strong knowledge of on-page and technical SEO best practices.
Proficiency with WordPress, SEMrush, and project management tools (e.g., Monday.com).
Familiarity with HTML/CSS basics.
Ability to troubleshoot website issues and work with technical teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Skills
Experience with SEO plugins (Yoast, Rank Math).
Understanding of social media marketing and paid social strategies.
Google Analytics or SEO certifications.
