The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and energized Senior Technologist to join our Cape Town office, in the Roads and Highways Function. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional services on projects, including design management and design delivery for transportation infrastructure projects and managing professional teams of medium/large projects.

Key responsibilities :

- Oversee medium/large project management and delivery.

- Formulate business strategies aligned with Function's group objectives.

- Cultivate and sustain client relations for ongoing satisfaction.

- Prepare tenders/proposals, securing projects for the Function.

- Provide mentorship, assist in professional registration.

- Execute projects, ensuring adherence to budget, time constraints, and quality standards.

- Establish and nurture key client relationships for project success.

- Contribute to Section's staff development through guidance.

- Ensure projects are adequately resourced with required capabilities.

- Guarantee timely, budget-compliant project completion with appropriate standards.

- Review Bid Documents, identify commercial and financial risks.

- Draft response letters to limit the company's exposure to risks.

- Author technically competent reports of acceptable quality.

- Verify and take responsibility for team members' work in the project.

- Effectively present and represent technical work.

- Realistically estimate pricing and timing for projects.

- Possess a clear understanding of work procedures, briefing the project team.

- Successfully identify and follow through on leads for additional work.

- Demonstrate comprehension of local business technologies and markets.

- Make and ensure outcome-driven technical decisions.

- Provide training, actively contribute to team-building.

- Market technical capabilities to enhance company visibility.

- Supervise Engineers/Technicians, overseeing checks and inspections.

- Evaluate test results and visual inspections, using sound engineering judgment.

- Adopt a proactive approach to prevent costly mistakes.

- Implement project management and company procedures effectively.

Recommended Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Engineering or B.Tech degree from an accredited University/University of Technology.
  • Professional registration with ECSA essential.
  • Minimum 8 - 10 years of professional experience in transportation infrastructure with a strong background in geometric or transportation design.
  • Working knowledge of Bentley Microstation, Open Roads Design Software as well as Civil3D.
  • Interest and/or experience with BIM systems would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the commercial aspects of project management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively write technical reports.
  • Courteous and business orientated manners when communicating with stakeholders to foster and promote good working relations.
  • Co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to make technical decisions which are outcome driven.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent and manageable workload.
  • Knowledge of QA and OHS requirements.
  • Experience in Government standards, codes and documentation.
  • Experience in design management and design delivery for projects and managing professional teams of medium/large projects, would be beneficial.
