Overview

The purpose of this role is to lead the design, installation, support, and continuous improvement of Centralised Blasting Systems in underground mining operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant system performance through technical expertise, training, audits, and customer engagement.

Qualifications

Required:

Grade 12 / Matric Diploma (Electrical/Electronic Engineering) and Trade Test

Advantageous:

Certificate in CENTRALISED BLASTING SYSTEM installations Training qualification Underground blasting certificate Red seal (electrician)

Experience

10 years of demonstrated experience in an underground operational / explosives mining environment 3 years demonstrated experience in Underground blasting systems (CENTRALISED BLASTING SYSTEM) 3 years on-the-job electrical installations

Duties

Technical:

Design a detailed electrical System installation layout (include knowledge of transformers, inductance, and power specification- be able to read and right electrical drawing). Understanding mine layout sketches- be able identify the Centralised Blasting System equipment quantities from the sketches. Knowledge of competitor's Centralised Blasting System. Knowledge of underground mining methods. Knowledge of explosives accessories and their behaviour. Extensive knowledge of optic fibre and electronic communication medium. Drive marketing and presentations to customers. Attend to call-outs. Continuous remote monitoring and support to all Centralised Blasting System installed sites. Help in the continuous improvement of the Centralised Blasting System. Extensive travelling with regard to support to all Centralised Blasting System installed sites.

Installation:

Manage Centralised Blasting System installation from start to finish. Develop a detailed System installation plan from start to end. System Commissioning.

Training:

Develop training manuals. Conduct site Centralised Blasting System training (User, Engineering/technical and software trainings. System certification (DMR). Develop system operation procedures.

Audits:

Perform Centralised Blasting System Audit and software upgrades. Conduct Centralised Blasting System (installation and operational) risk assessment. Conduct HAZOP of the system. Conduct robust system test (fire range). System blast and audit reports. Systems troubleshooting and fault finding. Issue complying certificates for the installation.
