Senior Software Quality Engineer

Job Description
To lead quality assurance efforts across projects, mentor junior and intermediate QA engineers, and drive innovation in testing strategies and automation. The role ensures high-quality software delivery through effective testing approaches in collaboration with development, business, and architecture leads. This is a 12 months contract role based in Cape Town or Johannesburg.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead QA initiatives and develop testing frameworks.
- Collaborate with technical leads to ensure testable requirements.
- Monitor team quality output and identify areas for improvement.
- Mentor and upskill QA team members.
- Innovate in areas like automation, performance, and security testing.
- Ensure quality across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Manage CI/CD pipeline setups and DevOps best practices.
- Technical leadership & strategic thinking
- Automation framework design
- Risk assessment & decision-making
- Mentorship and team development
- Strong communication, relationship building, emotional intelligence, and assertiveness
- 10+ years in software testing, with 3+ years in leadership roles.
- Strong experience in backend and frontend test automation.
- Proficient in Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Skilled in SQL, test data management, and test framework creation.
- Experience with tools like JMeter, LoadRunner, OWASP ZAP, and Burp Suite.
- Hands-on CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI, ADO, etc.
- Deep understanding of DevOps (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP).
