Duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct high-quality research in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
  • Publish in DHET-accredited journals with an impact factor greater than one (1) in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Research.
  • Project management of Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects, including academic administrative functions.
  • Assist with the development of collaborative relationships with relevant government, industry, and professional organisations in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
  • Oversee and manage the research outputs of Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
  • Assist in the identification and coordination of Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary teams of stakeholders for research projects.
  • Identify funding opportunities and apply for external research funding, individually or as part of interdisciplinary research teams in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Research Projects.
  • Conduct workshops and seminars on Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Research topics, attend and present papers at conferences, and research colloquia to academics, students and/or support staff.
  • Supervise at least one postgraduate student (master's or PhD) in Environmental Sociology or Interdisciplinary Research Projects.
  • Contribute to curriculum and programme development for UFS modules in Environmental Sociology or Interdisciplinary Research.
  • Serve as a member of university committees and perform any other tasks allocated by the Centre's director(s).
Inherent Job Requirements:
  • PhD on NQF level ten (10) in Sociology related field.
  • Eight (8) years of lecturing and supervision experience in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary at national scholarly conferences.
  • An NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
  • Proven experience in supervision of graduated degree and PhD students in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
  • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary
  • Proven experience of working in multi-disciplinary research teams in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
  • Proven experience in project management for Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
Recommendations:
  • Existing networks with industry, government and/or other academic institutions in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
  • Proven track record of the development and creation of short courses in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
  • Proven track record of managing funded projects in Environmental Sociology and Interdisciplinary Projects.
