Senior Quantity Surveyor

Job Description


Responsibilities:
- Preparation of cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
- Utilize Candy CSS to compile initial project budgets from inception to refined/detailed project completion budgets, including earthworks, material, labour, equipment take off, and all relevant costs.
- Perform cost analysis and cost control during the construction phase.
- Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
- Conduct site visits and measure completed work to verify quantities.
- Assist in the preparation and evaluation of tenders.
- Work closely with the procurement department on tender and procurement strategies and relevant project pricing.
- Monitor project progress and prepare monthly valuations and reports.
- Assist in the negotiation and procurement of materials and subcontractors.
- Co-ordinate and develop budgets / takeoffs with relevant appointed professionals and issue relevant RFIs as required.
- Compile a list of procurement documents for tender.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure project requirements are met.
- Ensure compliance with South African building codes and regulations.
- Periodically track costs against current construction status and cost control implementation, and compile reports/records of subcontractors payments against works carried out.
- Provide support in the resolution of contractual and commercial issues.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
- Prepare weekly/monthly budget control reports and ensure site adherence.
- Raise, discuss, and resolve problems.
Qualifications:
- National Diploma or Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
- Proficiency in QS software (e.g., WinQS, CostX, Candy CSS).
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of construction methods and materials.
- Knowledge of South African building codes and regulations.
Experience:
- 7 years of experience in a quantity surveying role.
- Experience with residential, commercial, or industrial projects is a plus.
