Valid registration with SANC as a Registered Nurse.
Minimum 8 years as a Registered Nurse, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a surgical or day hospital.
3 - 5 years experience in theatre is essential.
Orthopaedic surgery experience will be advantageous.
Qualifications in perioperative nursing, critical care, and nursing management advantageous.
Conflict handling & performance management skills.
Strong clinical expertise, leadership, communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in MS Office.

Role Description
The Senior Professional Nurse THEATRE Second in Command (2IC) - Theatre supports the Hospital Manager in overseeing clinical and operational activities within a fast-paced Day Hospital environment. This role ensures high-quality patient care, efficient resource management, and compliance with healthcare standards, while providing leadership to nursing staff. The Second in Demand acts as a deputy to the Hospital Manager, facilitating seamless day-to-day operations in a cost-effective manner.
CRITICAL OUTPUTS
Clinical Oversight
+ Ensure safe, high-quality patient care for same-day surgical and medical procedures, adhering to South African Nursing Council (SANC) standards.
+ Monitor pre- and post-operative patient outcomes, coordinating with surgeons, anesthetists, and pharmacists.
+ Administer medications, perform diagnostic tests, and assist in minor procedures as needed.
+ Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with clinical protocols.
Staff Supervision
+ Supervise Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, and auxiliary staff, ensuring adequate staffing for daily procedures.
+ Conduct performance evaluations using the Employee Performance Management and Development System (EPMDS).
+ Provide mentorship and training to enhance clinical skills and patient-centered care.
+ Address staff concerns and foster a collaborative team environment.
Operational Support
+ Assist the Hospital Manager in scheduling procedures, managing theatre lists, and optimising patient flow.
+ Ensure availability of clinical supplies and equipment, maintaining cost-effective resource utilization.
+ Support compliance with health and safety regulations, including infection control measures.
+ Act as the primary point of contact in the Hospital Manager's absence, ensuring operational continuity.
Administrative Duties
+ Contribute to budgeting and cost control for clinical operations.
+ Assist in quality assurance processes, including accreditation with the Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa (COHSASA).
+ Prepare reports on patient outcomes, staff performance, and operational metrics.
+ Uphold Batho Pele principles, advocating for patient rights and satisfaction.
