Assist with the monitoring and support of the Value Group's information technology infrastructure environment. Responsible for analysing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and repairing of network infrastructure and application components. Performs a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation and training tasks to ensure the computer network performance meets company and user satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor Value Logistics network infrastructure
Monitor and produce daily statistics related to WANLAN performance and capacity
Maintain a thorough understanding of the basics behind the Internet and its workings DNS, Security, IP Routing, HTTP, VPN, Email Routing, SPAM etc
Configure and setup Cisco firewalls, VPN concentrators and security appliances for access to vital business applications
Design, setup and configure complex switching environments
Design, setup and configure complex wireless networking that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications
Maintain a thorough understanding of Local Area Networking
Assist in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, WINS etc.
Configure and install customer and server network software for upgrading and maintaining network systems
Maintain multi site network operations and software applications, operating systems and regular maintenance for the entire Value Logistics network
Monitor assigned projects and programme components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives
Respond to enquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors etc and provide technical assistance and support
Supervise the administration of systems and servers related to the network to ensure availability of services to authorised users
Troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware and software applications, telephones and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services
Assist in preparation of IT budget pertaining to WAN and LAN infrastructure and relevant environment
Identify possible risks and implement proactive measures as well as suggest improvements
Submit reports on request from management
Be available to be on after hours standby on a rotational basis and to travel to all regional and satellite offices for immediate support
Assist with the daily running of the infrastructure network team
Monitor and manage networks and servers, WAN/LAN checks, server checks and documentation
Incident management, calls resolved timeously, no repeat calls, general call management and prioritisation
Continuous improvement, training, proactive measures, quality of work
Specialist focus area, network maintenance/management/optimisation, network and server availability/uptime and standby
Assist in relevant operations/operational functions as required
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12
An appropriate formal network qualification such as CCNA or higher and relevant practical experience
MCP or MCSE will be an advantage
Additional certificates/diplomas of competence in the field of Information Technology will be an advantage such as BCom Informatics
At least 5 years relevant IT experience in WANLANserver environment
Own transport essential
