Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the design, maintenance, installations, monitoring, and support of CPUT's growing LAN/WAN network, troubleshooting network problems and outages, and scheduling upgrades. The goal is to ensure the high availability of CPUT's network to provide best-in-class service to CPUT's stakeholders.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A BTech in Information Technology or equivalent qualification.
At least 3-5 years' experience in Cisco Network (LAN, WAN and Wireless) Deployment, Configuration, and Support / in CCNA / HCIA (International certified).
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Ensure that enterprise network infrastructure planning is aligned with the Departmental Operation Plan (DOP) and the Institutional Operational Plan.
Implement enterprise network strategies for Disaster Recovery.
Plan, implement and configure scalable, resilient, network infrastructure solutions and related technologies according to business requirements, with a specific focus on data centre technologies.
Maintain CPUT's network infrastructure according to agreed service standards, including capacity, performance and availability, as well as providing second-line support on deployed network technologies.
Provide technical network expertise as part of ICT infrastructure projects and participate in other CPUT projects to contribute towards business objectives.
Identify and implement opportunities for integration, consolidation and enhancements to ensure the cost-effective and optimal use of network resources and technology.
Research and evaluate alternative network architectures and related technologies as well as recommend suitable implementation plans in alignment with the CPUT's network architecture framework and roadmap.
Create and maintain technical network topology diagrams and provide structured documentation and procedures for the CPUT's network infrastructure.
Keep abreast of new network technologies and liaise with vendors for purposes of product and technology review, coordinating vendor presentations where relevant.
Mitigate risks in the network environment as identified by internal or external auditors and other governance-related assessments.
Design and implement enterprise network upgrades.
Pro-active monitoring and manage utilisation of university network infrastructure provided by 3rd parties.
Liaise and manage 3rd party service providers to ensure smooth service delivery.
Ensure high availability of enterprise network infrastructure through the use of monitoring tools.
Provide enterprise network maintenance and support.
Process Management.
