Peach Payments is a fast growing Pan-African PSP that makes online commerce and digital payment acceptance easier and more accessible across all Africa. Why we're hiring for this role: We're seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to become a crucial part of our legal team. As we grow, we need a seasoned legal professional who is adept in corporate commercial law and thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Your mission if you choose to accept it:

  • Contract Drafting and Review: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of corporate and commercial agreements and contracts ensuring alignment with business objectives and legal requirements, with an emphasis on clarity and practicality. Ensure all legal documents are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice on a broad range of legal issues, including fintech regulations, employment law, intellectual property, data privacy, contract negotiations, and compliance matters
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assist in navigating the complex regulatory framework of different African jurisdictions as we expand, ensuring compliance in all business activities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with various departments, providing clear and actionable legal advice to support business objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Act as a deputy to the Head of Legal/General Counsel, managing key projects and mentor and support junior legal staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing legal team.
  • Legal Research: Stay abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its operations. Conduct legal research and provide updates on emerging legal trends.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify legal risks to the business and propose practical, creative solutions.
  • Litigation: Potentially manage and oversee litigation matters, including disputes, arbitrations, and regulatory inquiries
What we'd like you to have: 
  • A law degree from a recognized institution. Additional qualifications or certifications in corporate law would be an asset.
  • At least 5-8 years of experience in corporate commercial law, preferably with some experience in the fintech sector or a related field. Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape in financial services and technology is a plus.
  • Proven track record in dealing with complex legal issues, contract negotiations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional drafting skills with a strong preference for plain language and clarity.
  • Proven track record of attention to detail and the ability to handle complex legal matters.
