Job Purpose


To provide proactive professional legal advice and risk management services to internal clients to mitigate the banks legal risk.

Job Responsibilities

Maintain knowledge management; and improve team success by sharing knowledge with team and stakeholders. Add value to Nedbank by identifying and recommending opportunities to enhance processes; systems and policies and support implementation of new processes; policies and systems. Deliver on risk and compliance related projects by tracking progress and ensuring completion within specified time frames. Mitigate risk and minimize losses by identifying risk factors linked to non adherence to project timelines and recommended changes and courses of action. Improve business efficiency and minimize compliance risk by conducting gap analysis of business processes; and by scrutinising relevant monthly reports. Ensure delivery on projects by planning individual activities according to business needs and monitoring actions. Minimize overall business risks by engaging and obtaining stakeholders' view of where risks exists. Make an informed recommendation to stakeholders by evaluating identified risks and by conducting observations; analysing data and interviewing relevant parties. Foster good relationships and promote business understanding by engaging in effective communication with stakeholders. Monitor relevant legislative compliance status by receiving electronic feedback from Business Information Systems and communicating with the branches regarding actions to be taken. Conduct FAIS (Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services) act monitoring on a weekly basis by analysing reports throughout the business units. Create stakeholder awareness and understanding of the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) by utilising reports obtained from the BCP intranet and by engaging with and ensuring that each branch has an approved business continuity plan in place. Monitor compliance training completion throughout the designated business unit and conduct follow ups by reviewing Group Compliance reports. Ensure full understanding of changes on relevant legislative issues by conducting ad hoc training. Ensure that the recommended actions are taken by participating in external audit process and subsequently follow ups with relevant stakeholders.

Experience in digital, consulting, software licensing, software development, SAAS and other cloud outsourcing transactions, IT support and maintenance contracts; Experience should be from an environment such as a law firm, private legal practice, or in a fast-paced corporate legal/transaction group in IT or other relevant industry; Proven contracting history where you have been the lead negotiator; Proven ability to efficiently manage a large volume of transactions Experience negotiating technology-based arrangements Demonstrable ability to independently manage drafting and reviewing of transactional documents and correspondence Able to present alternatives and propose solutions to issues, and must be sufficiently skilled, Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills; Ability to work independently as well as part of various IT technical teams; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Proficient in MS Office suite of products Experience in a multi-jurisdictional environment with knowledge of cross-border transactions will be advantageous Experience across a broad range of different disciplines/legal areas will be advantageous

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level


Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification


Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Post Graduate Degree , Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Minimum Experience Level


5 - 7 years experience as legal advisor Must have at least 5 years experience in Tech/Digital Law Manage Tech Legal Risk
