FACULTY OF ECONOMIC AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF TAXATION TITLE: SENIOR LECTURER (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The incumbents will be responsible for:
  • Lecturing in Taxation at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
  • Academic administration and management;
  • Supervising postgraduate students; and
  • Scientific research and publications in accredited academic journals.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Qualified CA(SA), AND Masterxe2x80x99s degree a specialisation in taxation that includes a research component; OR
  • PhD qualification with a specialisation in taxation;
  • Lecturing experience at a tertiary level;
  • Experience in research and/or involvement in research activities; and
  • Practical tax experience.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Ability to effectively function in a group;
  • Technical tax knowledge must be up to date with current legislation.
  • Relevant knowledge of research methodologies; and
  • Skills and knowledge for preparing students for the CA(SA) examination.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Experience in the facilitation and management of large student groups;
  • Experience in blended learning practices;
  • Experience in the supervision and guidance of postgraduate studentsxe2x80x99 research;
  • Lecturing experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level from an economic or finance perspective in the field of taxation;
  • Publications in accredited academic journals;
  • Involvement in professional activities where applicable;
  • Candidates that are not as yet in possession of a doctoral degree should demonstrate the potential and willingness to obtain a doctoral qualification within a reasonable period after date of appointment.

PLEASE NOTE: As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to prepare and present a 15-minute simulated lecture to the committee. The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbentxe2x80x99s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
