FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES SCHOOL OF MEDICINE DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY LECTURER/SNR LECTURER

RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Teaching basic, clinical and regulatory pharmacology at tertiary level including the theoretical basis of scientific principles, experimental design, and regulatory affairs;
  • Be intimately involved in research in a related field, including the establishment of a sustainable research niche aligned to the Departmental focus areas, and publication thereof;
  • Acting as supervisor for postgraduate students;
  • Being involved with curriculum development/innovation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: LECTURER
  • A Healthcare Professionxe2x80x99s qualification with associated MMed degree;
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa;
  • One DHET accredited publication;
  • One yearsxe2x80x99 teaching experience in Pharmacology, Pharmacy or Regulatory Pharmacology.

SENIOR LECTURER
  • A Healthcare Professionxe2x80x99s qualification with associated MMed degree;
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa;
  • Three yearsxe2x80x99 teaching experience in Pharmacology, Pharmacy or Regulatory Pharmacology;
  • At least three accredited publications (Ideally more, preferably in last 3 years and in ISI journals);
  • At least two MSc students supervised;
  • Course coordination with evidence of curriculum development.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal and mentoring skills;
  • Good computer skills;
  • Scientific writing skills;
  • Proactive and goal-oriented nature;
  • Leadership qualities;
  • Dedicated to professional development, including obtaining a Doctoral degree (if not yet obtained).

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES: Lecturer
  • One year teaching experience in Pharmacology, Pharmacy or Regulatory Pharmacology including tutoring.

Snr Lecturer
  • A strong and proven record of research and postgraduate student supervision in Pharmacology, including peer-reviewed publications;
  • Research experience in Pharmacology; or pharmacologically related areas;
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in the allied health professions;
  • Experience in basic sciences-related techniques (such as advanced cell culturing, analytical pharmacology, molecular investigations or proteomics)
  • Bioinformatics;

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this position will be commensurate with the incumbentxe2x80x99s level of appointment, as determined by Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) salary regulation and UP policy guidelines.
