Job Description


:OverviewThe Senior Game Designer works with the teams consisting of Producers, Developers, Designers, Animators, Sound Designers, and Quality Assurance with the position's primary focus being designing competitive game titles. This position is responsible for the look and feel of a game by directing the theme design, mechanics and dynamics of our games.
ResponsibilitiesConceptualise Game Symbols

  • Researches and conceptualises prelim symbol designs according to brief, ensuring creative input and approval from relevant parties.
  • Pays attention to player understanding of hierarchy and value.
  • Manages economy of detail on readability required for quality user experience.
  • Considers the symbol set as a unit and how they relate to the rest of the brand.
  • Creates high quality final designs according to creative brief that meets the requirements for symbol animation.
Design Animations
  • Brainstorm animation ideas.
  • Effectively communicates animation concept to relevant parties.
  • Adheres to technical requirements for animation.
  • Produces additional art that may be required for animation.
Specialist Outputs
  • Regularly conduct in depth competitor research.
  • Document research and present findings to the team regularly.
  • Develop new product strategy.
  • Ensure the game creation process is competitive and optimised
Design Game
  • Produce concept designs.
  • Designs new game Environments, working within known parameters.
  • Collaborate with spec writer to generate game specification.
  • Creates high quality final designs according to creative brief that meets the requirements for Technical Design.
  • Co-ordinates and communicates with PM's and relevant parties to ensure that all project deadlines are met.
Game Animatics
  • Gathers reference material for approval from relevant parties.
  • Mockup animatic concepts providing explanations rationale.
  • Produces art assets, when necessary, for Animatics.
Conceptualise Game
  • Brainstorms potential name, theme, personality and functionality relevant to Game Portfolio requirements.
  • Assists in the facilitation and creation of the game concept proposal.
  • Communicates and collaborates with relevant parties to finalise concept.
Client Focus
  • Understands client needs and expectations.
  • Shares information with clients to build their understanding of issues and capabilities.
  • Builds rapport and cooperative relationships with clients.
  • Responds quickly to meet client needs and resolve problems.
Conceptualise Game Characters
  • Researches and conceptualises prelim character designs according to brief, ensuring creative input and approval from relevant parties.
  • Creates high quality final designs according to creative brief that meets the requirements for the next step of character creation.
Brand Integrity
  • Design logo that supports the product theme and target audience.
  • Maintains Brand integrity throughout the product's design.
  • Takes into account cultural references and perceptions.
  • Ensure assets are usable for marketing.
Provide Technical Support
  • Provide training and mentor new starts.
  • To have an effective working knowledge of the product software.
  • Promote the correct archiving and template systems.
  • Understand and have knowledge of the technical aspects of building the relevant software product.
  • Actively seeks to understand and meet stakeholder expectations and product requirements
Team Leadership
  • Ensures that the team business plan is aligned with the company strategy and working towards achieving the strategy.
  • Effectively communicates processes, policies and procedures to team members.
  • Provides ongoing support for Team Members.
  • Provides ongoing mentorship for Team Members.
  • Facilitates research around design industry best practices, standards and initiates processes and workflow improvements where necessary.
  • Supports Project Management by ensuring that team members meet project deadlines.
  • Monitors performance of team members on an ongoing basis and takes effective steps to deal with non-performance.
  • Conducts performance appraisals of team members regularly, taking into account Peer and Management feedback.
  • Ensures that the team members are equipped with the requisite skill set for both current and future projects by developing a PDP for each team member
QualificationsTertiary Education: Graphic Design Diploma/ BA Multimedia in Digitial Visual Arts or equivalent experience in relevant industryAdditional experience:
  • Training After effects Mentoring Illustrator - Advanced Photoshop - Advanced
  • Plus/Minus 7 Years relevant design experience
  • Project experience: Amount of projects, Project complexity, Technology, Processes
  • Project Lead experience
  • Knowledge of game development processes
