Job Description
Leadership & Strategy
Lead cross-functional engineering teams in EC&I, software, and systems integration projects.
Drive innovation and continuous improvement in system design and performance.
Develop and implement engineering standards, best practices, and governance frameworks.
Design & Development
Oversee the design and specification of electrical systems, control architectures, and instrumentation for heavy machinery.
Lead the development and integration of embedded and supervisory control software (e.g., PLC, SCADA, HMI).
Ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
Project Execution
Manage engineering deliverables across the full project lifecycle: concept, design, prototyping, testing, commissioning, and handover.
Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and operations teams to ensure design-for-manufacture and operational reliability.
Conduct risk assessments, FMEAs, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Operational Support
Provide technical leadership during commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of machinery in the field.
Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for system failures or underperformance.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Systems, or related field.
8+ years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead capacity.
Proven experience in:
Designing and integrating EC&I systems for heavy industrial or mining machinery. Developing and deploying control software (PLC, SCADA, HMI). Systems engineering and multidisciplinary integration. Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, ISO, SANS) and safety regulations.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong leadership and team coordination skills. Deep technical knowledge in EC&I and control systems. Proficiency in engineering tools (e.g., EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000). Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Desirable:
Experience in mining, materials handling, or mobile heavy equipment. Exposure to Industry 4.0 technologies, IoT integration, and data analytics. Professional registration (e.g., PrEng, CEng) is a plus.
