Why this role is exciting:

The main purpose of a DevOps Engineer, is to homogenise development and operations, and to create a collaborative and complementary development culture.

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for working hands-on to create and develop automated, containerised cloud application platforms, and design and implement DevOps processes that use those platforms. To act as a subject matter expert for troubleshooting and resolving complex, multi-tier architecture problems that span a number of different platforms

Responsibilities:

  • Be an SME on the tools and technologies used by the squad
  • Perform triage functionality through verification and fixing of bugs
  • Collaborate with a distributed team to fulfill the department's quarterly objectives
  • Automate recurring manual tasks & optimize repetitive processes.
  • Develop code both independently and while pair programming
  • Perform code reviews
  • Research and prototype new technologies
  • Support software testing and quality assurance processes to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Respond to alerts, review error messages, and fix bugs in a timely manner
  • Ability to assess, debug and resolve technical issues
  • Maintain build- and stage stability
  • Review business needs, requirements, technical specifications
  • Influence system wide architecture
  • Mentor and give guidance to less senior staff to grow careers
  • Contribute to creative solutions that help make the development process more efficient
  • Evolve architecture
  • Maintain & improve continuous integration process & work towards continuous delivery.
  • Resolve issues blocking engineering's ability to deliver.
  • Accelerate development by constantly improving resource provisioning to enable engineers to do their work.
  • Research new technologies to enhance SDLC velocity & stability.
  • Minimize feedback loop by having optimized continuous integration builds
  • Regularly review peer contributions and take part in constructive retrospectives to increase efficiency
  • Actively contribute to and maintain technical documentation
  • Follow technology trends and incorporate new promising technology as required to keep with the times
  • Elevate ownership of application stability
  • Keeps technically abreast of trends and advancements within area of specialization, incorporating these improvements where applicable
  • Increase efficiency and optimal use of organizational resources
  • Increase cross-team collaboration and employee satisfaction
  • Better and proactive customer service due to increased coherence within the organization
  • Perform point releases
  • Develop alternative solutions to possible bottlenecks.
Does this sound like you?
  • Previous experience as a Software Engineer, DevOps / Automation Engineer
  • Automation and Configuration Management
  • CI/CD tools, preferably experience in Jenkins administration and writing pipelines
  • Experience with Terraform to programmatically provision the required resources
  • Experience using building tools
  • Programming and/or scripting language competency, with at least one of; Shell, Java, Groovy
  • Gradle with Groovy configuration & plugin authoring, or equivalent Maven experience
