Role Purpose
The Senior Credit Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing the company's credit control function, ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts, minimising bad debt risk, and maintaining strong relationships with clients. The role combines hands-on debt recovery with leadership, process improvement, and stakeholder management.
Key ResponsibilitiesCredit Control & Collections
Proactively manage a portfolio of customer accounts to ensure invoices are paid within agreed terms
Chase overdue invoices via telephone, email, and written correspondence
Resolve payment queries and disputes efficiently, liaising with internal teams where required
Negotiate payment plans and settlements in line with company policy
Escalate high-risk or long-outstanding debts appropriately
Reporting & Analysis
Produce regular aged debtor reports and cash collection forecasts
Monitor credit exposure and highlight potential bad debt risks
Provide accurate updates on debtor positions to senior management
Assist with month-end reporting relating to accounts receivable
Process & Controls
Review and improve credit control procedures to enhance efficiency and cash flow
Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and procedures
Support the implementation and use of accounting / ERP systems
Assist with credit checks, setting credit limits, and account onboarding
Team Leadership (if applicable)
Support, mentor, and oversee junior credit controllers
Allocate workloads and ensure collection targets are met
Provide training and guidance on best practice credit control
Stakeholder Management
Build strong working relationships with clients to support prompt payment
Liaise with Sales, Operations, and Finance teams to resolve billing or contractual issues
Act as a professional and firm point of contact for payment-related matters
Skills & Experience RequiredEssential
Proven experience in a senior or standalone credit control role
Strong track record of improving cash collection and reducing debtor days
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Confident dealing with customers at all levels, including difficult conversations
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
