Senior Confectioner, Pastry Chef & Cake Decorator

to lead by example, inspire our team, and uphold the highest standards in both taste and presentation.

About the Role

We're looking for a creative, highly skilled professional with the expertise to develop new confectionery products, pastries, and signature cakes. This is both a hands-on and leadership role, where you'll mentor and coach our team of confectioners and decorators, while acting as quality controller for our entire confectionery production.

Key Responsibilities

Product Innovation:

Design and develop new recipes for cakes, pastries, and confectionery items, keeping up with trends while maintaining Cake Zone's signature style.

Hands-On Expertise:

Lead in advanced cake decorating (especially fondant work), pastry creation, and artisanal confectionery production.

Mentorship & Coaching:

Train, mentor, and guide confectioners and pastry chefs, helping them refine their technical skills, creativity, and efficiency.

Quality Control:

Oversee the production process from start to finish, ensuring consistent quality, flavour, and presentation across all products.

Production Leadership:

Manage workflows, delegate tasks, and ensure deadlines are met without compromising quality.

Customer & Brand Alignment:

Ensure all creations reflect Cake Zone's high standards and exceed customer expectations.

Requirements

Minimum

5 years' professional experience

as a confectioner or pastry chef, with at least

3 years

in advanced cake design and decoration (fondant expertise essential). Proven ability to create new pastries, desserts, and confectionery products. Strong leadership and team management skills. Exceptional creativity with a keen eye for detail. Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. Excellent organisational and communication skills. South African citizen or valid work permit. Clear criminal record. Contactable references.
