Job Description

An established, South African insurance giant is looking for a Senior Developer to join their organization, based at their head office in Sandton. The company requires the successful applicant to have 4+ years demonstrated experience working as a Software Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful Developer will be required to translate software requirements into workable programming code and maintain and develop programs for use in business. The role will involve writing specifications and designing, building, testing, implementing and sometimes supporting applications using programming languages and development tools. They will need to be able to work as part of a team, such as with software engineers and systems analysts, and write programs according to their specifications.

Your role will include (but will not be limited to) the following duties:

• Prepare specialized code as required
• Contribute technical expertise to requirements analysis to enhance the quality of the solution design
• Gather feedback to improve the quality and reduce operational risk of the developed application
• Undertake post-release activities to develop a base of knowledge to be incorporated in future build and release cycles
• Provide 3rd level application support and problem resolution to minimize the impact of application related service outages

The Application Developer will be required to contributes to the development of software, web, and multi-media applications to facilitate the achievement of business outcomes and improvement of business efficiencies and processes through leveraging technology.

Qualifications Required:

• Matric / Grade 12
• Computer Science or other relevant technical degree
• Any Microsoft Certifications will be advantageous
• BEng or other BSc degree with notable computing and mathematical content

Additional relevant IT Development certification would be advantageous
Skills and Experience Required:

• 4 + Years Development Experience

Experience of the full software development lifecycle * Experience in software architecture solutions

• Knowledge of a wide range of open source projects and components
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of Object Oriented Design & Programming techniques and patterns (OOP)
• Knowledge of several standard software development methodologies
• Knowledge of integration patterns and technologies
• Experience working in an agile environment
• Experience in Web Technologies such as Angular

Technology Knowledge Required:

Back-End Skill Set:

• C#
• Web API or MVC (3, 4, 5)
• NET
• Working knowledge of RDBMS like MSSQL (2008 +)
• MongoDB (nice to know)

Front-End Skill Set:

• UX/Usability experience a must
• HTML (XHTML, HTML4 and HTML5)
• JavaScript
• Ajax
• Exposure to Client-size MVC Frameworks (knockout, backbone, ember and Angular especially)
• JQuery
• CSS2 and CSS3
• Debug tools such as Firebug / Chrome Dev Tools
• Cross Browser/Platform development
• Consuming Data formats such as JSON/XML
• Responsive UI Experience
• CSS Preprocessors (LESS/Sass)
• HTML5 API's (Video, Geolocation etc.)
• Twitter Bootstrap 3
• Signal R

Other Skills (Highly Advantageous):

• Understanding of OOP
• Visual Studio
• Integration experience between front-/back-end
• Exposure to Version Control with Git/Subversion/Bitbucket and branching strategies
• Ability to write Clean code
• Knowledge of multi-threaded, multi-tiered applications
• Experience with Service Orientated Architecture
