My client, situated in Johannesburg, operates as a worldwide steel manufacturing enterprise. They provide a diverse array of products, including flat steel, long steel, and various steel-related items, catering to a broad spectrum of sectors like construction, automotive, mining, and manufacturing. Furthermore, they have vested interests in iron ore mining and coal production, which serve as vital raw materials for steel production.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the deliverables of the role include in-depth understanding of the steel market, including factors that influence steel prices, quality standards, and the unique challenges and opportunities within the steel manufacturing sector , procurement and purchasing related to steel and raw materials used in steel production , sourcing steel, negotiating contracts with suppliers, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective supply of materials required for steel manufacturing processes, controlling costs, and maintaining the quality and consistency of materials essential for steel production.
Job Experience & Skills Required:

-B Com - Supply Chain management
-Minimum of 5 years significant experience in procurement or purchasing, with a focus on steel or related materials, is crucial
-In-depth knowledge of the steel manufacturing industry, including an understanding of steel production processes, raw materials, market dynamics, and quality standards.
-Strong negotiation skills
-Must be proficient in SAP system
-Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to procurement and steel manufacturing is essential

-Proven track record of cost savings and process improvement initiatives
