Job Description


We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Business Development Manager to join a leading South African corporate and commercial law firm serving multinationals, listed companies, financial institutions, entrepreneurs and government.The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the professional services industry, with a strong background and qualification in the legal field. This dual role involves providing expert legal advice in corporate and commercial law and driving the growth of the law firm through business development initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing a strong BD strategy that aligns with the law firm's objectives.
  • In collaboration with Research Services (Business Intelligence), able to digest and deliver meaningful research on existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and industry or market trends to inform and support business development opportunities, strategies, and decisions.
  • Recommend markets and projects to pursue.
  • Opportunity spotting, monitor client activity, news coverage and other market developments to identify opportunities to build our business. The candidate will encourage the partners and also attend and participate in industry activities.
  • Collaborating with the lawyers and other staff members to identify cross-selling opportunities and maximise revenue from existing clients.
  • Supports firm-wide efforts related to knowledge management, including collecting experience captured in pitches, proposals, and other experience-based submissions.
  • Track and follow-up firm marketing and business development leads.
  • Promoting the law firm's legal services to potential clients by developing and delivering compelling sales presentations, proposals, and pitches
Skills and knowledge
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to identify new business opportunities and develop creative solutions to business challenges.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, and to work collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • A strong track record of achieving sales targets and driving revenue growth.
  • Knowledge of the legal industry and the ability to understand and articulate the law firm's legal services.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • An understanding of the latest trends and their role in a commercial environment
  • Professional approach to time, costs and deadlines
  • Ability to work in a multi-task and multi-deadline environment, under immense pressure.
  • Ability to work independently/self-manage briefs and activities yet collaborate with other team members.
Qualification/s
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a reputable institution.
  • Admitted as an attorney in South Africa.
  • +5 years of experience in corporate and commercial law within a professional services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of South African corporate and commercial legal landscape.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality legal services to clients
