Who are we?

The Group's five business clusters (Sanlam Fintech, Sanlam Life and Savings, Sanlam Investment Group, Sanlam Allianz and Santam) house the Group's business operations. The Group Office provides strategic direction and support to the five clusters, assisting them in realising their strategies and meeting their business objectives. The Group Office is responsible for governance and for the Group's centralised functions, which include: Finance, Actuarial, Risk and Balance Sheet Management, Strategy, Human Capital, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability.

What will you do?



As a Senior Auditor, you will be responsible for conducting Control Adequacy Reviews (CARs) and Control Effectiveness Reviews (CERs), ensuring that internal controls are functioning as intended and that business processes are aligned with risk management strategies within the SanlamAllianz. You will perform audit, and report audit findings to senior management. You will play a key role in assessing risks, developing audit programmes, and executing audit plans.


Control Adequacy Reviews (CARs)


Obtain background information, define the business processes and identify the objectives of the process. Assess risks and develop mitigation strategies. Score risks, assess residual risks, and report on high-risk areas. Draft and update audit programmes based on process changes. Communicate audit findings and develop management comments.



Control Effectiveness Reviews (CERs)


Define sample criteria and extract samples for audits. Execute audit programmes and assess the effectiveness of internal controls. Document audit work and update audit programmes as necessary. Obtain management comments and communicate audit observations to key stakeholders.



Audit Management

Assist SADC Audit Manager in managing CARs and CERs. Identify key control and create/ update audit programmes. Supervise and mentor junior auditors, ensuring knowledge transfer. Report control breakdowns and audit findings to management. Perform on-the-job quality assurance, reviewing audit programmes and reports. Follow up progress made by management on implementing management actions on audit observations reported.



Ad Hoc Projects and Client Relations


Undertake special audit projects as assigned by management. Build and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders.



Quality Assurance


Conduct quality assurance reviews of audit work and deliverables. Ensure compliance with Global Internal Audit Standards. Ensure compliance with Group Internal Audit Methodology.

What will make you successful in this role?


Ability to execute a CER and perform basic risk and control assessments. Understand the role of control models. Understand all Global Internal Audit Standards as it relates to audit assignment execution. Understanding of sampling. Intermediate data analytics skills. Ability to use audit software. Ability to effectively use the basic functionality of the technology commonly used. Understand the objectives and process flow of basic business processes. Detailed knowledge on how to perform a CAR and how to draft an audit test plan.

Qualification and Experience


Qualification:


A completed B. Com degree in Accounting / Financial Accounting / Management Accounting or equivalent degree or Diploma in Internal Auditing.



Experience:


Minimum of 5 years audit experience or completed SAICA articles. Audit experience in the Financial Services (specifically insurance). Audit experience in both insurance and investment management sectors will be to your advantage.



Adhoc:


Prepared to travel. The role requires frequent travel to Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia. Valid driver's license.



Compentencies:


Strong understanding of Control Adequacy Reviews (CARs) and Control Effectiveness Reviews (CERs) Knowledge of internal control models and risk assessment methodologies. Familiarity with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards and guidelines. Proficiency in sampling techniques and audit tools. Ability to mentor junior auditors and manage audit teams. Strong analytical skills and knowledge of business processes. IT and Data Analytics background will be advantageous.
