Job Description


The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to repair and maintain existing infrastructure and help with the development of new infrastructure by providing approved building standards.

A Grade 12, Job Specific Qualification, or equivalent qualification with NQF 4, OR a National Diploma, or Advanced Certificate, or equivalent qualification with NQF 6 and Trade Certificate. Higher Education Qualification/Advanced Diploma at NQF 7 will be an added advantage

5 years' work experience in the relevant field when having Grade 12 Job Specific Qualification with NQF 4, OR 3 years' work experience in the relevant field when having a National Diploma, or Advanced Certificate, or equivalent qualification with NQF 6.

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: Experience Facilities Management, Plumbing, Irrigation; Knowledge of Plumbing; Knowledge about Buildings; Knowledge on the Irrigation system; Project management knowledge and skills; Knowledge about Government Human Resource, procurement and financial management policies The possession of a valid B driver's licence with at least one-year practical driving experience.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure effective workshop maintenance and repairs;
  • Conduct irrigation maintenance services;
  • Ensure effective management of fleet, machinery, store and workshop;
  • Conduct effective facility and infrastructure management;
  • Ensure proper management of materials; and
  • Ensure effective provision of health safety and risk management services.
