As the
Section Manager,
you will develop, maintain, update, and communicate all legal and operational policies, procedure, standards, and guidelines relevant to the area of responsibility, as well as ensuring safety, health, and environmental targets are set and achieved.
More of your responsibilities will include:
Understanding the Safety Management system and ensuring that it reflects alignment with Thungela Resources' Safety, Health, and Environmental Way
Coordinating and hosting Inspectorate/DMPR and visitors, as well as chairing SHE accident/incident investigations, as well as ensuring Contractor management in line with Thungela Resources safety standards
Creating and implementing agreed-upon operational planning and production targets, ensuring that integrated operational plans are practically designed, executable, and support the Thungela Resources business strategy
Ensuring effective planning of the rehabilitation of mined areas, as well as leading daily production meetings and ensuring value is derived
Ensuring that costs allocated for sections/shafts in the operation are controlled within the prescribed budget and remain comparable with internationally accepted benchmarks
Analysing approved budgets and expenses are within limits, as well as identifying and implementing cost-saving methods
Effective people management, Asset optimisation of operational capabilities
Qualifications
Degree/BSc in Mining Engineering (NQF 7)
Registration with the Engineering Council of SA (ECSA) - advantageous
Registration with SA Colliery Managers Association
Mine Managers' Certificate of Competency
Experience
Minimum of 6 years' experience in a Coal Mining environment, mainly Underground
Proficient experience in assessing management principles around mining and related equipment, and associated operational standards and philosophies
Project Management experience
Additional Information
Proficient knowledge of mine planning principles and processes
Knowledge of Best practices and new technologies relating to the mining industry
Proficient understanding of applicable environmental standards
Proficient knowledge of safety and risk management
