Section Engineer - OrkneyFull job descriptionNorth West, OrkneyAn industry leader in the mining sector which is based in the NORTH WEST PROVINCE and within the Orkney area, is recruiting for an experienced and skilled Section EngineerExperienceThe successful incumbent must possess at least five (5) yearsxe2x80x99 experience operating as a production engineer with a focus on gold as commodity.Formal qualificationsA B. Engineering (B.Eng or BSc Eng) or equivalent NQF level 8 qualificationHolder of Government Certificate of CompetencyValid driving license code 08A valid medical certificate certifying the incumbentxe2x80x99s fitness status to work on surface and or undergroundResponsibilitiesThe Production Engineer will be responsible for the conditions, duties and responsibilities imposed on Engineers by the Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 (Act no. 29 of 1996) in respect of the Mine, operations, underground workings and surface areas as indicated on the mine responsibility plans. In addition, the incumbent will also appointed to perform the duties in terms of Regulation 2.13.4.1.Support to and manage mining operationsCreating estimates for mining projectsAssist with mining equipment selectionImplement and coordinate mine safety programs, including the design and maintenance of protective and rescue equipment and or processesLay out, direct and supervise mine construction operationsManage the mining operationSupervise mining projects and staff to ensure that mining takes place on schedule and within budget parametersMaintain all equipment within legal parametersThe incumbent will be required to comply with all conditions and requirements of the Minexe2x80x99s Environmental Policy and Environmental Management Programmes, Procedures, Instructions and Protocols which may be applicable to the area of responsibility.To prevent pollution, to reduce waste at source and to recycle as far as reasonably practicable all redundant materials and equipment for re-use or for re-sale.Plan and ensure that the appropriate engineering practices and systems are implemented to achieve the optimum utilisation of labour, material, budget and equipmentTo apply and enforce the provisions of the MHSA relating to the roleDevelop and define the required performance policies and standards (including codes of practice)Ensure that subordinate managers and supervisors are empowered to respond to any operational need that arisesEnsure that the appropriate corrective actions are taken in order to remedy any identified or possible deficienciesEnsure mine standards and procedures are implemented and complied withLegislative RequirementsMine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996Minerals Act 50 of 1991Mines and Works Act 27 of 1956Hazardous Material ActManagerial InstructionsO.Pxe2x80x99sRisk Management SystemProceduresStandardsInherent requirements for the positionExcellent communication and reporting skillsA strong commitment towards production and the management of peopleGood problem-solving skillsReliable and dependableAbility to work independentlyAbility to delegate tasks to subordinatesAttention to detailAnalytical and logicalAchievement drivenAssertive and stress handling and coping capabilityMechanical abilityCommercial awarenessComputer skillsPlanning and organisational skillsCompliance and detail orientedShortlisted candidates will be expected to undergo psychometric testing and background screening.
