Location:
The client is based in the Pretoria region, but you are not required to go into the office every day. Primarily field-based across South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa (Regular travel to client sites, partner facilities, and regional offices)
Role Purpose:
This role is central to the companys market expansion strategy on Wastewater Management solutions. The Sales and Business Development Representative will drive new customer acquisition, manage existing client relationships, and support the sales team to meet aggressive growth targets. The ideal candidate will be both technically proficient and commercially savvy, capable of translating customer needs into effective and compliant wastewater treatment solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Market Expansion & Sales Development
Identify and penetrate new market segments: rural communities, schools, mines, lodges, informal settlements, and municipalities.
Build a strong sales pipeline by proactively engaging prospects and converting leads into sales.
Drive growth in both local and export markets in line with the companys strategic geographic footprint.
Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, production, finance) to develop pricing proposals, system specifications, and project quotes.
Work with Sales Manager and Commercial Executive to expand service offerings, including plant monitoring, service contracts, and management agreements.
2. Client Engagement & Relationship Management
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by understanding their wastewater challenges and positioning the companys natural biological treatment systems as ideal solutions.
Manage customer relationships throughout the project lifecyclefrom prospecting to commissioning and after-sales service.
Execute on-site system assessments and evaluation.
Promote long-term client retention through proactive site visits, satisfaction surveys, and performance reviews.
3. Strategic Brand Promotion & Market Intelligence
Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and government forums to showcase its innovation and environmental sustainability.
Educate stakeholders on product benefits, including modular scalability, reduced water consumption, and low maintenance requirements.
Collect market intelligence on competitor activities, policy changes, and infrastructure needs to refine sales strategy.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Experience:
35 years in technical sales or solution-based selling. Water/wastewater or environmental technology sectors would be beneficial.
Proven experience with long-cycle sales processes in both public and private sector environments.
Technical Competence (Preference):
Solid understanding of wastewater treatment technologies (aerobic, anaerobic, MBBR, nutrient removal).
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as the National Water Act, WULA requirements, and environmental audit standards.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and consultative selling skills.
Ability to understand technical drawings, specifications, and costings.
Competent with Microsoft Office, CRM platforms, and digital communication tools.
Other:
Valid drivers license and willingness to travel.
Willingness to work irregular hours when necessary to meet client and project demands.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Quarterly and annual sales targets met or exceeded.
Growth in customer base across South Africa and SADC markets.
Customer satisfaction and retention rates.
Accuracy and timeliness of quotations and CRM reporting.
Conversion rate of quotations to confirmed orders.
Effective promotion of additional services such as monitoring and maintenance contracts.
