Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Pursue the Branch's growth strategy by providing support to the business units on credit and trade finance business products on a bilateral and syndicated basis. Maintaining good communication with business units to guide them through the process
  • Provide solutions that connect Chinese and South African business via the xe2x80x9cOne Belt-One Roadxe2x80x9d initiative by improving the relationship between stakeholders and facilitating business ties between China and South Africa
  • Play an active role in promoting trade and business, contributing towards economic and infrastructure development while giving due consideration to green finance and sustainability
  • Drafting as well as reviewing due diligence reports (credit risk reports) of team members based on credit applications from client-facing business units serving clients both locally and internationally
  • Compiling post-lending management reports, and annual reviews, monitoring progress of developments, reporting on bilateral and syndication post-lending requirements and covenants as well as dealing with ad-hoc reporting as requested
  • Actively engage with members of the Credit Review Committee (CRC) locally as well as the DD team members and approves at EMEA (London)/ Head Office (China), to present risk findings and deal with queries from submission up to when a decision is finalized
  • Promote, update, and enhance strategies for credit business developments, green finance, and other risk-related areas which are outlined in relevant rules and regulations/ policies within the Branch
  • Lead the process on high-risk and non-performing loan recovery accounts to ensure there is consistent progress on account repayments and collections for those accounts that are handed over
  • Monitor the watch list accounts and ensure risk reports are submitted to Head Office if there are major risk events
  • Work closely with the internal rating process, ECL reporting as well as RAROC and EVA calculations within the team, ultimately informing the credit decision process
  • Provide a sound knowledge base to guide and mentor those within the team and other departments on all credit-related matters or queries
  • Provide training on credit risk, financial analysis, and other related processes that with improve knowledge and efficiency within the team
  • Industry knowledge and research are required from time to time in order to mentor and guide staff on best practices and the latest developments in the field
Requirements
  • B Com Finance degree as a minimum requirement
  • 8 years relevant credit experience in CIB, preferred 10 or above years
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software packages, specifically Word and Excel
  • In-depth knowledge of the South African Company Act, Banks Act, Basel III
  • Highly motivated, self-driven individual required with good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural team
  • High competency level to perform analysis of financial statements, cash flows, projections, and other financial trend information to assess risk on large corporate and complex international conglomerates
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in dealing with different credit products across various industries, dealing in collateral, and with an understanding of legal documentation across various jurisdictions
  • Extensive experience in the full end-to-end credit process and ability to train and mentor team members, guiding them towards improving existing processes in place
  • Suggest alternative funding solutions by making recommendations based on credit policy guidelines and the analysis based on the information provided where declined
  • Manage stakeholder expectations by operating and delivering against agreed service level agreements and reviewing the process on a regular basis to improve on timelines
  • Ensure general administration of the team meets high standards and aligns with the requirements of the Branch. Oversee the administration of the team's duties
  • Enhance processes, policies, and procedures by recommending and making submissions to the relevant parties
  • Adapt to changes in legislation by providing input to redesigning credit processes and systems where applicable.
