The Store person is responsible for the accurate ordering, receiving, storage, issuing and basic preparation of stock for the kitchen. This role ensures smooth kitchen operations, correct stock levels and compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Ordering & Supplier Liaison
Place daily and weekly orders with approved suppliers as directed by the Head Chef
Confirm orders against par levels and kitchen requirements
Track delivery times, follow up on missing items or delays
Communicate any supply issues directly to the Head Chef
Receiving & Checking Deliveries
Receive deliveries on site and check against invoices and purchase orders
Inspect quality, freshness and packaging of all products
Record and report discrepancies or shortages immediately
Ensure invoices are signed, coded and passed on to admin/Head Chef
Storage & Stock Rotation
Move and store dry, chilled and frozen goods into correct storage areas
Apply FIFO (first-in, first-out) principles to all stock
Label and date items correctly
Keep storerooms, fridges and freezers organised and clean at all times
Issuing Stock to Kitchen
Prepare and issue stock to chefs on request in correct quantities
Maintain portion control standards when issuing high-value items
Record all stock issued to ensure accurate daily usage tracking
Basic Food Preparation & Portioning
Assist chefs with basic prep tasks where needed, such as portioning proteins, weighing dry goods, vac-packing or labelling
Ensure all prep complies with hygiene and safety standards
Stock Control & Record-Keeping
Maintain accurate manual stock records
Support the Head Chef with daily stock counts and monthly stocktakes
Provide input on par levels and wastage reporting
Demonstrate basic computer literacy for stock capture and reporting
Hygiene, Safety & Compliance
Follow HACCP and kitchen hygiene standards in all storage areas
Ensure chemicals, cleaning products and food are stored separately and correctly
Report any maintenance, pest or safety issues immediately
Requirements
Must
live in the southern Suburbs of Cape Town
Previous experience in a kitchen, storeroom or stock-handling role
Physically fit and capable of lifting and moving stock safely
Organised, detail-oriented and reliable under pressure
Basic food knowledge and understanding of portioning and prep
Able to keep accurate records manually and on digital systems
Must
have computer literacy
Driver's licence beneficial
