Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and field-savvy Wildlife Researcher to lead ecological and conservation research efforts on our game reserve. This role is uniquely positioned at the intersection of field-based wildlife monitoring, volunteer program leadership, and academic data collaboration. The successful candidate will guide and mentor volunteers, manage ongoing monitoring projects, and analyse biological and ecological data collected in partnership with academic institutions.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Management & Guiding
Lead, educate, and inspire groups of international volunteers participating in fieldwork projects.
Deliver field training sessions, safety briefings, and conservation education.
Oversee volunteer scheduling, daily field activities, and team logistics.
Act as a liaison between reserve staff, researchers, and volunteers.
Research & Data Analysis
Coordinate and contribute to long-term wildlife monitoring projects (e.g., predator-prey dynamics, vegetation surveys, camera trap data).
Process and analyse data collected in collaboration with partner universities.
Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations for internal use and academic stakeholders.
Ensure scientific rigour and data integrity in all field research activities.
Project Coordination
Support visiting researchers and students with fieldwork logistics and integration into ongoing projects.
Assist with permit applications, ethical compliance, and liaising with regulatory bodies.
Contribute to the development of new research initiatives aligned with conservation goals.
Wildlife & Habitat Monitoring
Participate in and guide surveys including game counts, behavioural observations, GPS tracking, and biodiversity assessments.
Assist with reserve management activities such as habitat restoration, anti-poaching reporting, and species reintroduction programs.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Wildlife Biology, Conservation, Ecology, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in data handling and ecological analysis
Experience managing or mentoring groups in outdoor settings.
Valid driver's license with 4x4 driving experience.
Desirable
Experience working with academic research institutions.
First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification.
Familiarity with camera trap software, telemetry, or drone use.
