Research Technician: Entomology (four Years (4) Fixed Term Contract

Job Description

  • Render research support to research in the Crop Protection Division to ensure successful completion of projects on macadamia felted coccid and polyphagous shot hole borer.
  • Organise, conduct and monitor research experiments using technical and theoretical understanding.
  • Analyse and solve challenges encountered during experimental procedures utilising scientific knowledge.
  • Able to summarise experimental results and communicate experimental results with supervisor/project leader.
  • Record, analyse and interpret experimental data timeously according to reputable formats.
  • Proactively communicate with supervisor/project leader regarding key findings and critical problem areas.
  • Disseminate project results through peer-reviewed or popular publications and presentations at conferences.
  • Ensure dateline are met through effective distribution of tasks.
  • BSc or BTech in Entomology, Crop Protection or any other relevant qualification.
  • Previous experience with pests, especially pests on subtropical crops will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of integrated pest and disease management will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience with planning of trial layout and statistical analysis of results will be an advantage.
  • Ability to do physical work in the field and laboratory.
  • Ability to liaise with researchers on project progress and participation pertaining to research activities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Advanced computer literacy.
  • Valid driver's licence will be an added advantage.
